The castle is threatened by dark forces, including the menacing Shadow that causes madness and death, and is inhabited by mutilated creatures in search of blood. Alexander himself continues to live in the castle, performing terrible rituals in the depths of the castle.
4. Himuro Mansion, Fatal Frame
Himuro Mansion is a location based on a real-world Japanese urban legend, where gruesome sacrificial rituals occur every few decades and have long been believed to be haunted. At least, that's the story that Tecmo claimed when releasing Fatal Frame, despite the lack of sources that say this place actually exists in the real world. However, despite being completely fictional, this place is still scary.
Home to a sacrificial ritual involving ropes and masks, Himuro Mansion's ghost dwellers are aggressive and bear horrific reminders of their deaths all over their bodies.
5. Woodside Apartments, Silent Hill 2
The haunted house in Silent Hill 2 is an apartment buried in the city shrouded by the fog. Like most of the houses in Silent Hill, this place looks dilapidated, dark, and is inhabited by monsters.
In addition to the monsters, this apartment also features a strange architecture. There are doors that require jumping through an alley to reach, and rooms filled with odd sights such as ominous pits that challenge players to get James' hand inside.
6. Derceto Manor, Alone in the Dark
Alone in the Dark doesn't disappoint when it comes to haunted houses. The Derceto Manor was built in 1818 by a famous pirate named Ezechiel Pregzt, who planned to live forever around his illicit wealth. After the attack on the manor, Pregzt's soul became tied to a tree on the property and now his spirit haunts the land.
When the player arrives, the house has fallen into a state of complete darkness, inhabited by monsters and other horrors, all to keep Pregzt's soul trapped inside.
7. Washington Lodge, Until Dawn
It's no surprise that a cabin in the mountains, cut off from civilization in the middle of winter, might turn out to be a perilous place. That's the haunted house in Until Dawn, where a group of teenagers stay for the weekend to honor their friends who died a year earlier on the same mountain.
Unsurprisingly, the teenagers put themselves in danger this time as a dangerous killer lurks in the mountains and targets the beautiful cabin. The fate of the teens as they face this killer is entirely in the hands of the player, with each cast member may be facing a grisly ending.
8. Visage House, Visage

As Alex explores, she finds lots of strange happenings occur at the house. Ranging from ghosts that float through walls, statues that stare at her as she walks, and ancient horror cities buried under the foundations of buildings.
10. Shinra Manor, Final Fantasy VII
The city of Nibelheim in Final Fantasy VII has a dark past, as a hub for the Shinra Corporation and the location of a massive fire caused by the main villain Sephiroth prior to the events of the main game. As the party returns to town as part of the story, they are surprised to find it is no longer a charred ruin, but looks just as terrifying as years before.
