The anime of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is presented as a sequel to Naruto Shippuden. Some say that the anime episodes are boring. Once rumors spread that the manga would be cancelled. The manga author himself said Boruto manga won't run as long as Naruto. But what about the popularity of Boruto anime according to Japanese citizens themselves?

Hulu Japan has more than 1,550,000 paid subscribers, a half million more compared to the international anime streaming service Crunchyroll that holds more than 1,000,000 monthly subscribers.

A quite good rating, right? Boruto can hold its own as the fourth most popular anime and as twelfth most popular show on Hulu Japan.

The only anime series that can beat the popularity of other TV shows is Detective Conan, ranked fourth. It is not a surprise considering that Conan anime series has been running non-stop for 22 years from 1996 to 2018 and every time the movie airs in theaters it always occupies the top box office position in Japan!

The 2017-2018 income report from TV Tokyo, as the sole holder of the Boruto anime license on Japanese TVs, also confirmed the popularity of the anime sequel.

Boruto anime occupied the third position in sells and fifth position in gross sales. Although it hasn't been able to exactly follows on Naruto's footsteps, we can’t deny Boruto's popularity in Japan. Moreover, the famous playground among anime lovers, Nijigen no Mori, also opened a Naruto and Boruto-themed attraction.
