Gloom is a pokemon that has been introduced since the first generation. It becomes one of the oldest Grass pokemon that ever exist. Gloom is the evolution of Oddish which later can evolve into Vileplume. There are some facts about Gloom that the Pokemon fans might not know yet. Let’s check out the discussion below!
1. Gender Differences
Each Gloom has flower on their head, but the number of the petals determine their gender. The female only has one petal, while the male has four petals.
This is a gender difference that is easy for anyone to find out just by looking at their head. Many fans who like Gloom don't know about this fact.
2. Foul Nectar Odor
Gloom can produce nectar from its mouth, and it smells bad. Many people hated this foul odor. It is said that one in a thousand people is immune to the smell, they can even enjoy it. This may occur due to the biological composition of the nectar itself, which is clearly not something that humans or other Pokemon will like.
3. Unique Evolution
Gloom can evolve into two different Pokemon: Vileplume and Bellossom. To be able to evolve into these two Pokemon, Gloom needs stone. This is one of Gloom’s unique facts. Maybe there are only a few Pokemon who need stones to evolve.
While Gloom has two different evolutions that both require stones. Maybe no other Pokemon has the same evolution form as Gloom.
4. Gloom Weight
Gloom is apparently heavier than it looks, which is about 9kg. Many fans estimate that Gloom weighs around 2 to 5 kg. This is because it looks really light to carry.
In fact, it is very difficult for trainers to carry this light-looking Gloom. Gloom is also about 2 feet tall.
5. Gloom Shiny Form
Gloom has a green shiny form. This color might not be so cool when compared to shiny of the other generations. But Shiny Gloom has a different color from the original, green and purple. Once you first find it in various Pokemon games, you will immediately know that it is shiny.
6. Evolve into One Type
Bellossom is a Grass pokemon, while Gloom is a Grass / Poison pokemon. Gloom lost two types when it evolves to Bellossom. It's also weird that Pokemon with a quite difficult evolutionary conditions like Bellossom only has one type. From its appearance, Bellossom could have other types such as Bug or Fairy.
7. Gloom Name Origin
Most fans assume that the name Gloom means gloomy because of its appearance, but there is a theory that say that the name means bloom.
It is most likely that Gloom name originally comes from bloom. This can be seen from the flower found in Gloom's body, as well as its evolutionary form, Vileplume.
8. Gloom Reaction When In Danger
As mentioned earlier, Gloom released a foul odor. The foul odor is only released when it is in danger. Trainers in the Pokemon world don't dare to mess with this Pokemon. They don't want to be doused with an unpleasant odor because it will be a bad experience.
9. Petal Dance
Petal Dance is a very powerful Grass-type move. Perhaps many do not know that this move could only be used by Gloom and its evolutionary line. In the second generation, more Pokemon can use this move. But of all pokemon in the first generation, only Gloom can use this move.
10. Sticky Nectar
Gloom releases honey, and it's far more sticky than any other liquid objects in the Pokemon world. The trainers who trapped in this sticky nectar will surely very surprised because it is not easy to be able to escape from it.
Unfortunately, this ability has never been shown in the game or the anime, even though it can offer interesting story. It could be that the Rocket Team caught Gloom and used the smell or sticky honey to do evil.
