Here are some facts about Kurogiri, the first Nomu in My Hero Academia!
Anime & Manga | 28 December
At the end of the first season, Kurogiri, along with the other the League of Villains attacked the Class 1-A at U.A. Kurogiri is quite unique because it is different from other ordinary villains. He is also very obedient to Shigaraki Tomura. In this article, Dunia Games wants to talk about some facts regarding Kurogiri in My Hero Academia. Take a look at the article below!
1. His Real Identity
Many fans are confused as to why Kurogiri looks quite friendly even though he is a villain. This is because his real identity is Eraserhead and Present Mic's best friend, Oboro Shirakumo.
After Kurogiri died, his body was taken and turned into the villain he is today by All for One and Doctor Ujiko as one of their first experiments in stealing quirk.
2. The First Nomu
Throughout the story, we've seen many Nomus, but they all can't compare to intelligent beings like Kurogiri. Kurogiri is also the first Nomu to be introduced in the story.
Surprisingly, Kurogiri seems to be more functional than the high-end Nomu shown when Endeavor became Hero Number One. Then why didn't Doctor Ujiko and All for One make more creatures like him? The answer might be explained later.
3. His Purpose
Since Kurogiri was created by Doctor Ujiko and All For One, he’s programmed to protect Shigaraki. That had become Kurogiri's main goal besides Doctor Ujiko who wanted to experiment on him.
This was why Kurogiri cared so much about Shigaraki's success, unlike the other members of the League of Villains.
4. How the Neck Bracelet Works
The neck bracelet on Kurogiri is meant to protect the weakest part of his body. Moreover, it seems that this equipment is also what prevents Kurogiri from revealing the secrets of All for One and the League of Villains.
5. His Quirk
Unlike Oboro's cloud quirk which can be used to travel anywhere, Kurogiri has the Warp Gate quirk that can move other people or himself from one place to another.
Due to being reborn as Nomu, it seems that Kurogiri also has other quirks besides his original one. That's why Kurogiri (Oboro) no longer uses the cloud quirk like when he was alive.
6. Warp Gate Quirk Weakness
Warp Gate is indeed a very useful quirk for a group like the League of Villains. They can go anywhere they wanted with the gate that Kurogiri created.
But this quirk actually has a weakness as Kurogiri cannot just send someone anywhere. He can only do it if he had visited the place one and knew exactly what it was like or his quirk won’t work.
7. The Danger of Warp Gate
Although it seems that it can only move other people from one place to another, the Warp Gate quirk is also very dangerous if used incorrectly. You may have never seen this, but if someone were to enter the portal when the gate is closed, their body can be split into two parts.
Seeing that, this might be Kurogiri's advantage to trap his opponent. But the League of Villains also had to think twice before entering the portal that Kurogiri created because they might experience the same thing.
8. The Meaning of His Name
Kurogiri in Japanese has two meanings. Kuro means black, while giri means fog. In other words, the name Kurogiri means black fog/ black mist. This name is referring to Kurogiri's appearance which is shrouded in black mist, as well as his quirk for making portals out of the black mist.
9. Oboro's Memories
Oboro's soul is not completely disappeared within Kurogiri. At certain moments, Kurogiri feels that his power comes from someone else. Most Nomus probably can't remember who they were in the past. But it’s different from Kurogiri who still had memories of his past self.
This is seen when Eraserhead and Present Mic visit Kurogiri in prison. Eraserhead's words sparked Kurogiri's memories of the past, where he was still Oboro. Even Kurogiri had mentioned Aizawa, although his memory disappeared again not long after.
10. His English Voice Actor
The English voice actor of Kurogiri is Chuck Huber who also voices Hiei in Yu Yu Hakusho. Not only that, but he also voices Android 17 in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, as well as many other anime characters.
