Bucky Barnes or Winter Soldier will appear in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney+ on 19 March 2021. In the series, Bucky will jump into a new adventure alongside Steve Rogers’ best friend, Sam Wilson or Falcon.

Post-Avengers: Endgame, Sam is trusted by Steve Rogers to be the next Captain America. Since then, Marvel fans have been curious about Sam’s journey with his new identity.

1. Winter Soldier’s Origin

Winter Soldier is one of the fictional characters in Marvel comic books. The character revealed to be Bucky Barnes is the next Captain America replacing Steve Rogers. The character Bucky Barnes was created by Joe Simmon while the character Winter Soldier was created by artist Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting. Bucky’s first debut was in Captain America Comics #1 published in March 1941. While Winter Soldier’s debut was in Captain America #1 published in January 2005.

2. Live Before World War 2

James Buchanan Barnes or Bucky Barnes was born in Shelbyville, Indiana in 1925. He was an orphan because his father died in the U.S. Army Lehigh training camp in Virginia before World War 2.

3. Bucky is Not Steve Rogers’ Childhood Friend

Because he lived in the camp, Barnes became the mascot of the soldiers earning the nickname Bucky. When he was a teenager, Bucky became friends with Steve Rogers who had a small physique. Steve was weaker at that time so there’s not much that he can do when others bully him. But luckily, Bucky is always there to help him.

4. Turned Into a Super Assassin by Russia

Bucky Barnes was placed at the frontline to stop the Nazis during World War 2. Bucky then meets Steve and tries to stop HYDRA. Sadly, Bucky was trapped and fell into a cliff. His body was missing and considered as dead. But Bucky’s body was taken by HYDRA and they changed him into a super assassin. After HYDRA was destroyed and the leader left the group, the super assassin project was continued by Russia.

5. Metallic Arm

You know that Bucky Barnes or Winter soldier has a powerful metallic arm created by HYDRA. With that arm, Bucky has super strength that will help him during his action. The arm grants him power to lift heavy objects, take bullets, and so on.

In MCU, Bucky’s metal arm was destroyed by Iron man. Until Bucky received a new Vibranium arm gifted by T’Challa.

6. Bucky Can Control the Metal Arm

Did you know that Winter Soldier’s metal arm is not just powerful. In Captain America Vol 5, Winter Soldier demonstrated him moving the bionic arm despite the arm being removed from his body. It’s going to be awesome if Bucky can remotely control the bionic arm in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

7. A Special Connection with Black Widow

Bucky Barnes had a special connection with Black Widow. After becoming Winter Soldier and earning the title of super-assassin of Uni Soviet, Bucky fell in love with Natasha Romanoff. In Captain America #27 released in 2007, Winter Soldier alongside Black Widow was running a mission together and engaged in a romantic relationship.

8. Was Captain America at One Point

In the comic book, Bucky Barnes once became Captain America. The story began when he ran from Faustus and was captured by SHIELD. At that time, Bucky got the message left by Steve Rogers. Before leaving, Rogers asked Stark to deliver the message to Bucky and ask him to be the next Captain America.

Bucky received the message and agreed to be the new Captain America. He also asked Stark to remove the subconscious order and grant him the full autonomy of his actions.

9. Became the Good Guys

During his time as Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes was a brutal killer. Realizing this, Bucky wanted to change and become a good person again. But it’s not as easy, because the subconscious order still exists and can be activated at any time. When Captain America obtained the Cosmic Cube, he restored all of Bucky’s memories and turned him into a good person.

10. Winter Soldier’s New Look

Bucky Barnes in the MCU is played by Sebastian Stan. Before, Bucky had long hair and an all-black costume. In The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Bucky will look fresher. His long hair is gone and will have short hair. The new look may remind fans of Thor’s look in Thor: Ragnarok.
