Warner Bros finally revealed the trailer for the new Mortal Mortal Kombat live-action film. The film is a reboot of the Mortal Kombat film that was released in 1995. Since it’s a reboot, the film presents a new cast. In the cast of the new Mortal Kombat film, you will see the name Joe Taslim who will play Sub-Zero. A fighter that manipulates ice and he will face a Japanese actor, Hiroyuki Sanada who will play Scorpion.

Speaking of Scorpion, things felt a bit lacking if we haven’t learned about some of his facts. Without further ado, here are some of the facts about Scorpion.

1. The History Behind Scorpion’s Real Name

Scorpion’s real name is Hanzo Hasashi, but it’s not a name randomly picked by Ed Boon. the name was inspired by a famous ninja named Hattori Hanzo. He served Tokugawa Ieyasu as a samurai. He was nicknamed Oni no Hanzo because of his fearlessness on the battlefield.

2. Change of Scorpion’s Kunai

Scorpion is known for his kunai that can be launched like a harpoon. The kunai is deadly because not only it can pierce his enemy, but it can pull them in Scorpion’s direction and beat them to death. In some of the series, the kunai of Scorpion was altered. In the first Mortal Kombat game, Scorpion’s kunai was tied to a rope. In the modern Mortal Kombat game, Scorpion’s kunai was connected to a chain.

In some instances, Scorpion’s weapon was not a kunai. In the original Mortal Kombat film, Scorpion’s weapon is not a kunai but a snake that can be launched from his arm.

3. Scorpion’s Voice Actor

Scorpion is famous for his phrase "Get over here!" or "Come here!". But do you know about its origin? In the first Mortal Kombat game, the voice was said by the creator Ed Boon

4. The First Scorpion Actor

In Mortal Kombat 2021, Scorpion will be played by Hiroyuki Sanada. But do you know the first actor of Scorpion? In the first Mortal Kombat, Scorpion was played by Daniel Pesina, an American martial art expert. 

Daniel Pesina was recruited by Midway Games to play Scorpion in the creation of Mortal Kombat. Besides Scorpion, Daniel Pesina also played Sub-Zero and Johnny Cage.

5. The Character with the Most Costume

Besides Sub-Zero, Scorpion is another Mortal Kombat character with the most costume. Counting from the first Mortal Kombat game until Mortal Kombat 11, Scorpion has more than 30 costumes, the base color for each costume is yellow.

6. Scorpion Died Before the Tournament

A lot of gamers know that Scorpion or Hanzo Hasashi died before the Mortal Kombat tournament stars. In the first Mortal Kombat game, Scorpion’s face was a skull covered with a mask. He is an undead who wants to take revenge for his death to Bi-Han or  Sub-Zero.

7. One of the First Original Characters

Like Sub-Zero, Scorpion is one of the original characters from Mortal Kombat. He is one of the seven playable fighters in the game. At that time, there’s no storyline for Scorpion, the player can use him and immediately join the Mortal Kombat tournament and fights Goro and Shang Tsung.

8. Working with Sub-Zero

Scorpion and Sub-Zero were fated to be enemies. Until Mortal Kombat XL, where the two made peace after knowing that their rivalry was based on revenge and slander. Knowing the mastermind behind their rivalry, Scorpion and Sub-Zero worked together to destroy Cyber Lin Kuei’s factory

9. Scorpion was Missing in Mortal Kombat 3

Unlike Sub-Zero who was always present in every Mortal Kombat game. Scorpion was missing Mortal Kombat 3 that was released in 1995.

In Mortal Kombat 3, Midway Games replaced some of the fan-favorite characters such as Scorpion and Raiden. They replayed them with new playable characters such as Nightwolf, Kabal, and Stryker.

10. Exist in Other Games

Scorpion was also featured in other games besides Mortal Kombat. The character appeared in NBA Jam Tournament Edition in 1995 alongside Sub-Zero.

Scorpion was also featured in The Grid, MLB: Slugfest Loaded, and Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. Scorpion also appeared in  Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe that was released in 2008.
