1. Densha Otoko (2005)

Densha Otoko takes the setting on a train. Everyday, the Japanese using trains as their transportations. This movie tells the story of Yamada Tsuyoshi, an otaku who falls in love at first sight with the woman he meets on a train.

Unfortunately, because he has zero dating experience, Yamada is unable to convey his feelings. He then started to learn many things to be able to confess his feelings. There are many funny and awkward scenes in the movie which portrayed his struggle to chase his crush.

2. Nobunaga Concerto (2016)

This film is adapted from a manga by Ayumi Ishii with the same title. Nobunaga Concerto tells the story of Saburo, a student who accidentally travels back in time to the Sengoku era.

Interestingly, Saburo meets a person who looks very similar to him and turned out to be Nobunaga Oda. The story becomes more exciting when Nobunaga was in a critical state, he then asked Saburo to take his place. Nobunaga Concerto deserves to be included on the list as one of the best Japanese movies of all time.

3. Ao Haru Ride Live Action (2014)

Ao Haru Ride reminded us that we can find our soulmate in our youth. This romance movie tells the story of Kou Mabuchi and Futaba Yoshioka, a pair of friends who one day were involved in a conflict. And their other friends look for a way to find the solution for the problems between the two.

Futaba Yoshioka is portrayed by Tsubasa Honda who according to the writer is very beautiful. Ao Haru Ride also deserves to be one of the best Japanese movies of all times.

4. Rurouni Kenshin (2012)

This movie is adapted from the anime Samurai X that you might already familiar with. The protagonist, Himura Kenshin’s cool action really exceed the audience expectation and this movie is regarded as one of the most epic movies.

Rurouni Kenshin itself tells the story of the former assassin known as Battousai (Himura Kenshin). But now he didn't want to kill people anymore. You must watch this movie.

5. Crow Zero (2007)

Crow Zero is a very famous movie, especially among teenagers. This movie tells the story of a fight between high-schoolers who fought over territory. The main character of Crow Zero is Takiya Genji, portrayed by Shun Oguri.

Genji wanted to prove to his Yakuza father that he could do it without his father help. At his school, Suzuran, later Genji will have many friends who will help him fight other schools.

6. Kimi ni Todoke (2010)

This film tells the story of a high school student named Kuronuma Sawako who is often bullied and often compared to Sadako (Japanese ghost). Due to her quiet and shy nature, and also has long hair, people are very wary of Sawako. Many people think that she is the real Sadako.

7. Ringu (1998)

Before they died because watching the video, the viewers will received a silent phone call. After receiving the phone call, they have six days before confirmed dead. After being investigated by a female journalist named Reiko Azakawa, it turns out it was the curse of the ghost Sadako.

8. Heavenly Forest (2006)

This romance movie tells the story of Shizuru Satonaka, a nerdy college student. Then she fell in love with a student named Makoto Segawa. 

Unfortunately, Makoto Segawa was already in love with another girl named Miyuki Toyama who was in the same class as him. This made Shizuru Satonaka very disappointed. Can you guess what she did after learning about it>

9. Death Note Live Action (2006)

This film tells the story of a person who discovered a magical book called Death Note. If he writes someone's name on the book, that person will die. This person named Light Yagami, he uses the Death Note to commit various criminal acts.

10. High and Low The Movie (2016)

These five gangs were called the S.W.O.R.D. What makes the story interesting is when the two legendary gangsters suddenly appeared after a long retirement, they are Mugen and the Amamiya Brothers. They are considered far more dangerous than the S.W.O.R.D.
