Previously, we have discussed the list of the most popular Android gacha games among Japanese gamers. Indonesian gamers themselves may already be familiar with names like Genshin Impact, Mobile Legends, and Arknights, but which titles actually reigns supreme in the top 10 most successful gacha in Indonesia for May 2021?

This Android gacha game popularity ranking is taken from data published by the mobile market analyst company Sensor Tower. This author deliberately does not include titles that do not have a gacha system in them (such as online domino games or puzzle games). Additionally there is one thing to consider: if you saw that the amount of revenue for a title does not match its position, it’s because these gacha games are sorted based on the estimated total revenue in Indonesia only, but (publicly) Sensor Tower only shows the estimated revenue of an application around the world a month before.

Now let's take a peek at the Top Grossing Android gacha titles in Indonesia!

10. Clash of Clans

Eight years later, Clash of Clans is still able to rank 14 on the Top Grossing Indonesian Google Play Store charts, beaten only by digital casino Coin Master and puzzle game Gardenscapes. Sensor Tower estimates the game earned USD$24 million in revenue with four million downloads worldwide in April 2021.

9. Pokemon Go

In 11th place there is Pokemon Go, which is just like COC, still refuses to die to this very moment. This augmented reality game still posted revenue of USD$29 million and two million downloads worldwide last month.

8. Lords Mobile

This game, which used to advertise a lot on YouTube, is actually in the 10th position when counting non-gacha games. Globally, Lords Mobile still earned USD$34 million and five million downloads, although it doesn't seem that popular in Indonesia.

7. eFootball PES 2021

Apart from RPG or strategy games, sports games are also on the list of the most popular gacha in Indonesia. Even though the revenue is smaller than previous titles, "only" amounting to USD$4 million, PES 2021 is still brimming with players and gets one million downloads throughout April.

6. State of Survival

With revenues of USD$21 million and two million downloads, last month this zombie survival game just collaborated with The Walking Dead series, so maybe the event had something to do with its ranking on this month’s list of the most popular Android gacha games.

5. Rise of Kingdoms

In fifth (or seventh actually, beaten by Roblox) there is another game whose also advertised heavily on YouTube. Rise of Kingdoms successfully earned USD$14 million, despite only getting 800,000 downloads in April. 

4. Genshin Impact

Up next is the open-world RPG that is still the talk of the town about the weeaboos and otakus. Soon will collaborate with Honkai Impact, Sensor Tower estimates that globally Genshin Impact received USD$23 million in revenue and two million downloads in April. 

3. PUBG Mobile

In third place (or fourth, losing to the Higgs Domino Island game) PUBG Mobile is still one of the battle royale games on top of the Top Grossing Indonesian gacha game with global revenues of approximately USD$23 million and six million downloads.

2. Mobile Legends

The one’s on second place is not surprising. MOBA games are indeed the most popular genre for people to spend time on both PC and mobile. According to Sensor Tower, Mobile Legends grossed USD$12 million and gained five million downloads. If you are counting the whole wide world, Mobile Legends still loses to Pokemon Go and Genshin Impact, but this one title is undeniably very popular in Indonesia.

1. Free Fire

Ranked first with an estimated revenue of USD$39 million and 15 million downloaders in April is Free Fire. PUBG and Call of Duty Warzone may dominate the PC market, but for mobile (especially in Southeast Asia and Latin America), Free Fire is the uncontested champion.
