Since One Piece was published in 1997 and still running now, Luffy has worn different clothes in each arc. You may not realize this, but Oda keeps updating Luffy's costume from time to time. Here are 10 Luffy costumes that he wore during the One Piece story!

1. Mafia Suit (Strong World Outfit)

Several One Piece movies feature the Straw Hats with attractive outfits. One of them is One Piece Strong World which was released in 2009. It features Luffy and his friends wearing all black clothes like the mafia.

One Piece Strong World is set between the Thriller Bark and Sabaody arcs and is the 10th One Piece film. Here, Luffy and his friends have to deal with the legendary pirate who existed in the Roger era, namely Shiki with the Fuwa Fuwa no Mi ability.

2. Sabaody Arc Outfit

Sabaody is one of the most interesting arcs in One Piece. Here, Luffy met Law and Kid and they fight together to face the Marines for the first time.

Here Luffy is wearing a blue shirt, a bracelet, and also shorts like he usually wears. In this arc too Luffy encountered Kuma before being bounced to Boa Hancock's place.

3. Drum Island Arc Outfit

In the Drum Island arc, Luffy gets a new partner, namely Chopper who acts as a doctor on the ship later on. Here, Luffy is wearing a winter jacket that Nami gave him with the shorts he usually wears.

Luffy felt uncomfortable with the jacket because he couldn't fight freely as usual. But in the end, Luffy still wore the jacket and defeated Wapol who was the antagonist in this arc.

4. Film Z Outfit

One Piece Film Z was released in 2012 and it features the Straw Hat crew in another attractive outfit. The film focuses on the Straw Hats trying to defeat Zephyr. At that time, Zephyr was trying to destroy the four seas.

With the help of Aokiji, Luffy and his friends managed to defeat Zephyr and prevent the destruction of the four seas. Here, Luffy is wearing a costume that looks like the future Pirate King. Of all the movies, maybe in this costume Luffy looks the coolest.

5. Arabasta Arc Outfit

Luffy's outfit in the Arabasta arc looks quite interesting. He wears Middle Eastern clothes with long sleeves. However, beneath his long sleeves, Luffy still wears his shorts.

Luffy also still wears his straw hat even though it is covered in a turban. Luffy's outfit changed after he faced the main antagonist, Crocodile.

6. Luci

In Dressrosa, Luffy and his friends had to disguise themselves so that Doflamingo would not detect them. At first Law, Zoro, and Caesar wore sunglasses and mustaches to trick opponents. In the end, they were caught anyway.

On the other hand, Luffy disguised himself as a person named Luci when participating in the Corrida Colosseum tournament. There, he wore a black Hawaii shirt with floral prints as well as fake grey facial hairs. It's possible that this outfit was inspired by Master Roshi in Dragon Ball.

7. Whole Cake Island Arc Outfit

At Whole Cake Island, Luffy was wearing a different outfit than usual. He wore a long red suit and black shirt. The reason Luffy wore that outfit was to attend Sanji and Pudding's wedding.

Sanji was wearing a wedding suit. Nami and Pedro also look elegant here. Interestingly, Luffy wore the same outfit when he faced off against the main antagonist, Charlotte Katakuri.

8. Luffy's Initial Outfit

At the beginning of One Piece and most other arc before the time skip, Luffy wore a red sleeveless shirt and blue rolled up (or torned-up) pants. Most people who know One Piece (not fans) probably only know Luffy in this costume. Until now, Luffy prefers to wear red clothes.

9. Time Skip Outfit

After the time skip, Luffy and his friends reunited again on Sabaody to sail to the New World. After 2 years, the Straw Hat crew came back with different appearances. Zoro closed one eye, Sanji's hair fringe now covered the other eye, Franky got a haircut, Nami had long hair, and so on.

Luffy himself is still in his red clothes. This outfit was also worn by Luffy in the Fishman Island arc before he changed his clothes after arriving at Punk Hazard.

10. Wano Arc Outfit

At Wano, Luffy wears two different costumes. The first is samurai-style clothing. Here, Luffy took an alias Luffytaro to hide his identity, even though he was found out too in the end.

At Onigashima, Luffy wore the same outfit after the time skip with the addition of a black cloak. With that outfit, he also fought against Kaido along with Law and Kid. Do you think this black cloak makes Luffy look cool?
