My Hero Academia is an action, superhero-themed manga by Horikoshi Kohei. In making this manga, Kohei not only expresses his own ideas because he's also using several Marvel and DC references.

As a superhero-themed manga, it's not strange if Kohei uses several Marvel and DC references and easter eggs that are already popular around the world and among the comic book community. In this article, Dunia Games wants to talk about these references. Curious already? Just take a look at the article below!

1. Marvel & DC Heroes Cameos

This first Marvel and DC reference is very clear because you can spot them in a silhouette. This is seen in the manga's first chapter where the world of heroes is introduced to the reader. Not only silhouettes of Japanese heroes such as Kamen Rider, Devilman, and Ultraman, but also Superman, Spiderman, and Wolverine. Due to copyright reasons, the silhouettes of these heroes are not shown in the anime.

2. Spiderman's Pose

Another Marvel and DC reference in MHA is Spiderman. If you notice, Asui's style when sitting is the same as Spiderman's. There is also another character who looks more like Spiderman is the main character from Vigilante: My Hero Academia Illegals, Koichi Haimawari aka The Crawler.

3. Mei Hatsune Has Similar Appearance Like Tony Stark

Mei Hatsune is a U.A student who doesn't have any useful Quirk for combat, but she is talented in making auxiliary equipment for heroes. The goal is to make as much money as possible. Have a lot of money and being a mechanic and technology expert, this description sounds familiar, right? Yes, it describes Tony Stark from Marvel.

Not only that, Hatsune gave armor to Midoriya as in one of the scenes in the movie Iron Man 2.

4. Watchmen Reference

In manga chapter 115, we can see a reference from the DC comic that Alan Moore is known for, the Watchmen. Here, Twice looks very similar to the main character in the comic, Rorschach. Twice has an unstable mentality if his mask is removed. That's why he always wears a mask.

5. Toga Wearing Bane's Mask

Bane is a villain from the popular Batman comics and the main antagonist in Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. Bane wears a strange mask to makes him intimidated as the main villain. In My Hero Academia, we can see references to Bane's mask, the mask that Toga wears.

6. The Joker Reference

Another Marvel and DC reference in MHA is the Joker from the Batman comics. The character that gets the reference is Re-Destro, the leader of the Liberation Army. Re-Destro has a similar appearance to the Joker himself. Not only that, but The Killing Joke he spoke is also a reference to the Joker.

7. A Cover That is Similar to Ultimate Spiderman's Cover

One of the best masterpieces of superhero comics ever is Ultimate Spiderman. Kohei has also taken a reference for his manga cover. If you look at the manga cover above, Deku and Muscular's poses are similar to Spiderman and Venom as depicted in one of the Ultimate Spiderman comic covers.

8. Killing Joke Also Said by Twice

Killing Joke is not only uttered by Re-Destro, but also by a member of the League of Villain, Twice. Twice recounts how his life turned into a life of crime and sums it up with The Joker's iconic line from his most famous story. "All it takes is one bad day."

9. Aoyama's Quirk

Scott Summers, or better known as Cyclops, is one of the most important characters in the X-Men series. He has been the leader of the group several times. Although he has great abilities, in fact, that power can be considered a curse. The laser that comes out of his eyes is very powerful, but he can't control it so Cyclops uses a visor.

In MHA, Aoyama also has abilities inspired by Cyclops although not the same. To be able to control the laser that comes out of his stomach, Aoyama also needs special armor.

10. Superman's Assistant

Recovery Girl is one of the most important figures in U.A because she is the one who takes care of all students so they can recover from their wounds. With her healing Quirk, Recovery Girl can heal anyone she kisses.

Even so, Recovery Girl can't do all the work alone so she uses a robot as her assistant. If you notice, this robot is very similar to Kelex, Superman's assistant in Fortress of Solitude.

So those are the various Marvel and DC references and easter eggs in My Hero Academia. Are there any other references you might found in the series? Write them down in the comment section!
