10 Iconic Superheroes From Indonesia Who Also as Powerful as Western Superheroes!

These 10 Indonesian superheroes have a superpower to fight evil.

Movies and superhero comic books are one of the genres enjoyed by young adults. This genre always introduces superheroes who can save the world with their superpowers. Like real heroes, fans will learn about bravery and not giving up on these superheroes. With superpowers that no less than Western superheroes, here are 10 iconic Indonesian superheroes.

1. Gundala

Surely you are familiar with this most popular superhero, Gundala. Started from his initial appearance in “Gundala Putra Petir” (Gundala: Son of Thunder) back in 1969, Gundala has already been adapted into the silver screen twice, in 1981 and its remake in 2019. Sancaka (Gundala’s real name) has the superpower to produce thunder from his bare hands. This power comes from his foster father who is the king of Thunder Kingdom.

2. Merpati

Hence to her name, Merpati is a superheroine who can fly and detecting direction. This superheroine, real named Sedhah Esti Wulan, was created by Hashmi back in 1977. According to the story, Merpati is the wife of Gundala, but both know their alter-ego after the two are married.

3. Godam

Godam is a superhero popularized by Widodo Noor Slamet (Widodo NS) back in 1969. Comes with an appearance similar to DC Comic’s Superman, turns out Godam also has similar powers; superhuman strength, able to fly, and immune to bullets. Those superpowers come from the suit he wears.

4. Sri Asih

Sri Asih is a superheroine created by R.A. Kosasih, also known as the Father of Indonesian Comicbooks, who’s popular since 1954. This superheroine, real named Nani Wijaya, is the reincarnation of Dewi Sri (Goddess Sri). When she says "Dewi Asih", she will turn into Sri Asih who can fight with strength equal to 250 adult males. She’s also able to fly, invincibility, duplicate and enlarge herself.

5. Volt

This superhero was created in 2012 by Indonesian actor Marcelino Lefrandt and Aswin MC Siregar. Volt is a modern superhero whose comic books are still popularized by Skylar Comics. This superhuman can control electricity around him to fight evil.

6. Aquanus

Before popularizing Godam, Widodo NS once created another superhero named Aquanus. He is told as a man from planet Zyba who can live on the land and underwater. Aquanus can breathe underwater and can produce a powerful, destructive beam.

7. Pangeran Mlaar (Prince Mlaar)

Those who love One Piece, surely familiar with this superpower. Similar to Monkey D. Luffy, Mlaar has a stretchy body. This experiment comes from an experiment by a genius scientist who also his uncle.

8. Zantoro

Instead of appearing like superheroes in general, Zantoro comes with almost all black like a villain or anti-hero in Western comic books. But don’t judge him by the cover, it turns out that Zantoro is an Indonesian superhero who is proficient in using various melee weapons.

9. Kalong

Kalong or also known as Calong is a superhero created by Hashmi who was introduced back in 1972 with Calong Anak Kelelawar (Calong, Son of Bat). From his appearance, he’s similar to DC’s Batman. Like real bats, Kalong can fly and communicate with animals. Not only that, but this child superhero also immune to bullets and blades.

10. Caroq

Caroq is an Indonesian superhero who was introduced in 1996 by Ahmad Thoriq. On his missions, he uses two long sickles imbued with unearthly powers. On top of that, he also mastered martial arts and magic to fight his enemies, especially Si Bengis (The Mean) and Si Tangan Empat (The Four Hands).
