It's a fact that Shino Aburame doesn't get the spotlight as much as other shinobi in Naruto and Boruto. In the manga, he only appeared when the story entered the fourth volume. Unlike the manga, he did appear in the first episode of the anime. In the anime we are told a lot more about the Aburame clan, thanks to the extended story for the characters.

Shino is a member of Team 8, alongside Kiba Inuzuka and Hinata Hyuga. Shino's personality develops from someone who has little patience and understanding to collaborate to someone who understands the importance of working together and patiently waits for unpleasant events. Who is this ninja who wears unique glasses? Let's look at the 12 most interesting facts about Shino Aburame, the insect controller.

1. Aburame Means Cockroach

Most of the characters in the Naruto franchise have names with special meanings. The creator, Masashi Kishimoto, drew inspiration from Japanese folklore for some of his characters such as Jiraiya and Kaguya. Kishimoto also named his character after something related to his personality. For example, Shino Aburame's teacher named Kurenai has a name that refers to his fondness for the color red.

Shino’s name is inspired by a character in Nanso Satomi Hakkenden, a novel about a dog who becomes a samurai. Likewise, his teammate named Kiba takes some inspiration from this novel as well. Shino's surname Aburame is actually a variation of the word "aburamushi," which translates to cockroach as a reference to the Aburame family's affiliation with insects.

2. Shino is a Calm Man

Shino Aburame has become a calm man. As a result of being isolated since childhood, he became somewhat mysterious. He is described as a stoic character.

He rarely smiled or showed any emotion. He also has a habit of holding grudges and it becomes very scary, as evidenced by Naruto's failure to recognize him at the beginning of Part II.

3. Shino Can Communicate with Insects

Shino Aburame has unique skills as a member of the Aburame clan. His ability to communicate and train insects are often considered disgusting by his friends at the Academy. On the other hand, Shino considered it a normal part of his life because that was all he knew.

The Aburame clan actually injects certain insects into their neonates so that their symbiotic relationship can begin immediately. Shino started experimenting with other insects as he got older, but his true talent was there from the moment he was born.

4. Shino Can Beat Hayate

Hayate is a pretty great Chunin Exam Committee. He can move at such tremendous speed and with shadow clones. However, considering that Shino Aburame's ability was aimed at dodging attacks and creating a substitute figure of himself according to his needs, Hayate's melee method was unlikely to succeed in defeating Shino.

Not to mention, Hayate would only issue one attack at Shino before Hayate was completely overwhelmed by Shino's bugs. The insect drained Hayate's chakra and made him a defenseless target for Shino to finish off.

5. A Courageous Shinobi

Shino Aburame is also a brave person. While he and his comrades were frightened when they saw Gaara's abilities during the second stage of the Chunin Exams, Shino still decided to help Sasuke who was fighting Gaara in any way he could. Shino also expressed his apologies for not being able to help in bringing Sasuke home.

Shino decided to practice teamwork skills with Kiba and Hinata from then on. Shino even helped Hinata hone her skills. Shino is one of the few people besides Naruto, who openly professes his trust in Hinata.

During the two year time skip that occurred between Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, Shino and his friends took the second Chunin Exams.

This Chunin Exam was also interrupted, but this time due to the sandstorm that occurred as Shino's team moved across the desert. Tsunade finally made the decision to raise all Genin from Konoha to Chunin.

7. Shino’s Zodiac is Aquarius

Shino Aburame, who was more concerned with science and rationality, couldn't possibly believe in astrology. Even if he believed the zodiac, his date of birth on January 23 would make him an Aquarius. Aquarius is a rebel who is concerned with social reform. That trait is unlike Shino's character, although Shino's trait matches many of the other popular Aquarius personality traits.

Aquarius is generally associated with eccentricity, aloofness, and incongruity. Shino seemed to blend in, despite the fact that even his teammates were unfamiliar with him and his fondness for insects set him apart from his classmates.

8.  Shino is an Optimistic Man

Shino Aburame was pretty confident of his talent. He is very optimistic that he will win any conflict, and he will tell the opponent about it for the safety of the opponent.

On the other hand, Shino enjoyed all battles and didn't like turning down an opportunity to do so. This can be seen when Konoha is attacked, Shino confronts Kankuro and he tells Kankuro who has lost to keep his puppet secret from being known to many people.

9. Shino and the Aburame Clan Can’t Show Their Eyes

Shino Aburame as a child was often seen wearing round sunglasses and a green jacket with a high collar, similar to the rest of the Aburame clan. Shino is like other members of the Aburame clan who often doesn't show their eyes from others. That's why even his teammates didn't know what Shino's true appearance looked like without glasses.

10. Shino Appeared in 4 Naruto Films

Shino Aburame, unlike some other ninjas of Naruto's age, doesn't have much of a role in Naruto films. He only appeared in 4 Naruto films. Shino made a cameo in Naruto Shippuden The Movie: Bonds, and his appearance really showed great power. Shino was able to destroy the entire base by himself, thanks to his insect.

Likewise, Shino's appearance in The Last: Naruto The Movie was short. At first, Shino was seen having dinner with Kiba, and then he became part of a study mission. We also get a glimpse of an alternate version of Shino in Road To Ninja, which features Shino as someone who doesn't like insects.

11. Shino Has Completed 44 Missions

Before Boruto began, Shino Aburame had completed 44 missions. There are 17 D-Rank missions, 17 C-Rank missions, 9 B-Rank missions, and 1 most challenging A-Rank mission. Shino was never officially assigned to S-Rank duties. Of course, this number does not include the missions that he participated in during the anime's filler episodes, such as the mission to search for the bikochu beetle that Shino led.

12. A Beekeeper Inspired Shino to Become a Teacher

The revelation of Shino Aburame as a teacher for Boruto's class at the Shinobi Academy came as a surprise to many. Shino's reason for becoming a teacher is actually revealed in Naruto. The way Shino treated her bugs was respectful, and Shino panicked when he started to lose connection with her bugs, similar to the relationship that Shino had with his students in the Boruto series. His life path to become a teacher had actually been determined when Shino went on an adventure to get a wedding gift for Naruto and Hinata.

Shino meets someone known as the Beekeeper, and he motivates the Beekeeper not to hide from the world's civilization in doing his job. That motivation caused the Beekeeper to compare Shino to an educator. It was the beekeeper's assumption that made Shino even more determined to become a teacher.
