Rinnegan is the strongest eye of the "Three Great Dojutsu" in the shinobi story of Naruto. The first person to own this power was none other than Hagoromo Otsutsuki, also known as the Sage of Six Paths. Only a handful of characters in the series have access to the Rinnegan, but all of them are characters with extraordinary powers.

Unlike other Dojutsu, the Rinnegan possesses a set of abilities known as the Six Paths Technique, which makes this eye equally dangerous, and makes it stand out as a precious treasure. What is Rinnegan? Here are the 14 facts about Rinnegan, Sasuke Uchiha's lost ability in Boruto.

1. Rinnegan can Manipulate Attractive and Repulsive Force

One of the strongest powers of the Rinnegan comes through the Deva Path. This pathway gives the user the ability to pull anything towards themselves with tremendous force with Bansho Ten'in, or do the opposite by pushing them away using Shinra Tensei.

When used with significant amounts of chakra, this power can even be used to destroy an entire village with ease. Hagoromo and Hamura Otsutsuki were able to create the moon with the attractive power of the Six Paths, Chibaku Tensei.

2. Rinnegan can Augment Body Parts

Perhaps the least used power of the Rinnegan is the Asura Path. With this ability, the user can augment their body with mechanical modifications. This power was used by one of the Six Paths of Pain controlled by Nagato Uzumaki.

A single strike from Asura Path was lethal enough to kill a powerful shinobi, and even though it was only used a few times, the ability was definitely still quite useful. 

3. Rinnegan can Extract human Soul

Rinnegan’s Human Path has some of the most extraordinary abilities both in battle and outside of combat. Simply put, this path allows the user to extract a person's soul through contact, and quickly kill the victim.

Nagato Uzumaki was seen using this power on Naruto Uzumaki when they clashed in the Fourth Ninja War, and had it not been for Itachi Uchiha's interruption, Naruto could have died there.

4. Rinnegan can Repair Any Damage with King of Hell

The Naraka Path allows the user of the Rinnegan eye to summon a deity known as the King of Hell known for granting two abilities. The King of Hell can be used to interrogate and kill victims after capturing them, while another ability this path offers is restoration, which is arguably the most useful ability available to a Rinnegan user.

Every body put into the King of Hell is completely restored, as seen when the Asura Path was brought back shortly after Choji Akimichi and Choza Akimichi destroyed it.

5. Rinnegan can See Limbo Clone

Rinnegan is quite remarkable and although it cannot see through smokescreens or barriers, it can observe chakra flow. While this Rinnegan's abilities were certainly not unique, it helps the user see things that exist in a different realm.

Madara Uchiha's Limbo clone is impossible for normal humans to see and not even the Sharingan or Byakugan can see. The Rinnegan is the only eye capable of seeing through such a complex jutsu.

6. Rinnegan Grants All Nature Transformation to its User

Every Rinnegan user has the potential to become highly skilled with ninjutsu as this eye offers complete mastery over all nature transformations. Nagato Uzumaki, a disciple of Jiraiya, was able to gain complete control over every nature transformation, as were other eye users such as Madara Uchiha, Obito Uchiha, and Sasuke Uchiha.

Moreover, learning any jutsu becomes much easier for the user of this eye, further strengthening this eye as the strongest of the "Three Great Dojutsu."

7. Rinnegan is the Only Eye Able to Decipher AdalahThe Sage of Six Paths Stone Tablet

Written by Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the purpose of the Stone Tablet is to prevent future reincarnations of Indra and Ashura from recreating the power of the Sage of the Six Paths and attaining the power of Rinnegan.

This tablet can be partially read by Sharingan and Mangekyo Sharingan, but the only eye that can fully decipher it is Rinnegan. Thanks to this eye, all the secrets of the Uchiha clan, along with how to obtain them, can be interpreted.

8. Rinnegan User can Manifest Chakra Chain

Thanks to the Rinnegan's seventh path, also known as the Outer Path, the user can manifest a chakra chain strong enough to bind anyone they aim at. Its power was so formidable that even the mighty tailed beast was not strong enough to escape its grasp.

This chain can suppress the chakra of anyone it touches. This can make the victim significantly weaker, as well as cause excruciating pain. Using this power, Madara was able to extract Kurama from Naruto in a matter of seconds.

9. Rinnegan User can Create Six Paths of Pain

By using the ability to create black receivers that can be used as chakra receivers, every Rinnegan user can create the Six Paths of Pain. As the name suggests, the user creates six bodies that receive chakra through black rods and act on their behalf.

Each of Pain's Akatsuki bodies gain access to one Path and all share a vision, making defeating them extremely difficult. According to Inoichi, this technique is very similar to the Yamanaka clan's Mind Body Switch, but stronger and more powerful in effect.

10. Rinnegan can Revive the Dead 

Without a doubt, Rinnegan’s greatest ability was the power to revive anyone using the Rinne Rebirth technique. The user of Rinnegan is said to be in control of life and death itself, and by using their own life force, the user can bring another person back from the dead.

Nagato Uzumaki was able to bring back all the Konoha villagers he killed during the invasion at the cost of his life. In the Fourth Ninja War, Obito Uchiha was forced to revive Madara using this technique.

11. Rinnegan’s Has an Ability Specific to One User

Madara Uchiha can create a clone in the limbo, which only his Rinnegan can see. Sasuke's Rinnegan allows him to shift space within a certain range, and create portals to other dimensions;

Momoshiki Otsutsuki is able to absorb any ninjutsu with his right Rinnegan and then release it from his left, and uses space-time ninjutsu to travel through his own dimension. So, Rinnegan has an ability specific to one user.

12. Literal Meaning of Rinnegan

The literal translation is literally the eye of Saṃsara. Samsara means the cycle of death and rebirth in which life in the material world is bound. The kanji "Rin" (輪, Literally meaning Wheel) is also used in the Sharingan and Rinne Sharingan, potentially linking the three terms etymologically.

13. Rinnegan  Creates Powerful Jutsu

This Dojutsu is so powerful, that the Rinnegan user is said to have been sent down from heaven to become a "God of Creation" who will calm the chaos of the world or a "Destroyer" who will render everything into nothingness.

Rinnegan provides various kinds of jutsu for its users, there are 31 known Jutsu. In Naruto: Shippuden episode 203, Sage of Six Paths’ Rinnegan is shown in red.

14. Sasuke’s Rinnegan is Destroyed By Boruto Who is Controlled by Momoshiki

Sasuke's Rinnegan was destroyed during the fight against Isshiki Otsutsuki with Naruto, Kawaki, and Boruto. Kawaki's last blow that stepped on Isshiki's body instantly annihilated the Otsutsuki until it disappeared without a trace. Surprised that Kawaki could perform kage bunshin no jutsu, Naruto and Sasuke were amazed by Kawaki's ingenuity that was able to defeat Isshiki once and for all. Kawaki can only summon 1 clone, different from Naruto and Boruto's kage bunshin no jutsu.

Speaking of Boruto, Sasuke was suddenly surprised by Boruto's attack whose body was controlled by Momoshiki. Boruto's sharp kunai stabbed Sasuke's Rinnegan in the eye. The Rinnegan was immediately targeted by Momoshiki who took over Boruto's body because he wanted to prevent Sasuke from using space and time jutsu with that eye.
