The story of Tokyo Revengers gets even more exciting when Hakkai Shiba enters the story in the manga's 74th chapter, in the 2017 timeline. He was Tokyo Manji's admin at the time and seems to be the reason the gang turned upside down. As Takemichi travels back in time once again, he soon finds Hakkai bowling.

Hakkai is the main driving force of the Tokyo Revengers story from Chapters 78 to 107, as he takes on a crucial role. He is in two gangs and is treated with care because of his personal relationship. One thing is for sure, he is actually a sincere man.

In fact, Hakkai didn’t have a big role in the first season of the anime even though he has appeared briefly in several scenes. Who is Hakkai? 1. Hakkai’s Background

Hakkai Shiba is the younger brother of Taiju Shiba, the leader of the Black Dragon. This gang was known as the most powerful organization in Kanto in its heyday. Black Dragon was founded by Mikey's older brother Shinichiro Sano, but the strongest leader is Taiju without a doubt. He reformed the gang and used it to gain wealth, and became a mercenary for the rich.

Hakkai is often bullied by Taiju, but he doesn't stand up for himself. He has a more peaceful relationship with his older sister, Yuzuha, whom he wants to protect at all costs, but Yuzuha also protects Hakkai. The way Taiju raises Hakkai is, he uses violence on strangers without any problems.

Mitsuya's intervention, Toman’s second division captain, helps Hakkai change into a better person. He and Mitsuya develop a close friendship.

2. Hakkai’s Arc

Hakkai Shiba attains the position of vice-captain in Tokyo Manji or Toman due to his friendship with Mitsuya. He also met Takemichi at the bowling alley and invited him to their place. Unfortunately for them, Taiju came home. As the captain of Toman, Takemichi meets Taiju as if sentenced to death. Hakkai offered his brother an exchange. He will leave Toman and join the Black Dragon to save Takemichi. He had other intentions, wanting to kill his brother.

Her younger sister Yuzuha is often abused by Taiju like Hakkai, and she thinks this is a way to free herself. He left Toman and planned to kill Taiju on Christmas. Takemichi didn't want that to happen, as he had already seen a future where Hakkai killed his brother and was manipulated by Kisaki Tetta. To prevent this from happening, Takemichi, Chifuyu, and Mitsuya go to the church where Hakkai and Taiju will meet.

A fight breaks out, and even Yuzuha shows up to kill Taiju as well. It is revealed that it was Yuzuha who killed him in the future, but Hakkai was to blame. He then stops and tells them that Kisaki is using him to turn everyone against each other.

After Mikey and Draken appear and defeat Taiju, this incident ends with not a single person dying. Hakkai tells his brother that he will never let him control their lives, and Taiju decides to leave the Black Dragon, and start a new life.

3. Hakkai’s Appearance

Hakkai Shiba is almost as tall as a Draken with a height of 183 cm. He has indigo-colored eyes, with very short blue hair. He has a unique hairstyle on the left side of his head that is shaved in a curved line.

He also has two distinctive features, a unique earring, and a scar that cuts his lips vertically. He has curly lashes under his eyes showing as well.

4. Hakkai’s Personality

Hakkai Shiba is a friendly and quiet man, who changed a lot during his childhood. His brother wanted to teach discipline, so he was constantly physically abused. He only experienced this brutal perspective, he continued to beat other children as an outlet. This attitude is changed by Mitsuya, who shows him how to actually use his powers.

Mitsuya develops a calm personality within Hakkai, and their friendship, both inside and outside Toman grows well. Hakkai easily makes friends, but he doesn't want to reach a higher position than his good friend. He also kept a secret and wasn't completely honest with his friends until the events of his fight at church.

5. Hakkai’s Secret

He was clearly hiding his brother's abusive behavior from Toman and those around him. But there was something else about his family matters that he really didn't want to reveal. When it came time to reveal the details of the situation, he decided to lie and tell the others that he fought Taiju to protect Yuzuha. In fact, it is the opposite. Yuzuha tells Taiju that she should just hit him instead of hurting Hakkai.

It was Yuzuha who did everything to protect her little brother, but Hakkai used this lie to draw all the attention to himself. He also wants to protect Yuzuha by taking the consequences of Taiju's assassination plot, to avenge everything they experienced during their childhood. Taiju reveals all these secrets at the church fight, and Hakkai doesn't even try to cover up anything. At that time, he had just experienced heartache and wanted a way out of it all.

6. Hakkai’s Skill

Hakkai Shiba was never a top tier fighter, but as a member of the Shiba family, he had power by nature. Taiju's harsh upbringing method also taught Hakkai some techniques, and he was a troublemaker in local parks. He might be strong enough to knock out an ordinary member of any gang, but he would have a hard time fighting a captain.

7. Hakkai’s Position

Hakkai himself is the Toman’s second division vice-captain. He was able to achieve this largely due to his friendship with Mitsuya, who led the second division. With his rank, Hakkai was the acting division leader, and in Mitsuya's absence, he would be able to command the entire army without any problems.

He is also a member of the Black Dragon while Taiju is the leader. But in one timeline he became the leader of the gang after he killed his brother, making him the 11th leader of the Black Dragon. Takemichi thought that this action was the cause of him becoming a bad person, and thus decided to stop Hakkai.

8. Hakkai Had Lost Trust from Tokyo Manji

In Toman, Hakkai was highly respected before Black Dragon beat up Takemichi, but this incident gave him a good reason to quit. Many admins and Toman members have also lost their trust in Hakkai. However Mitsuya, Takemichi, and Chifuyu act alone to save Hakkai from his brother, as they know the truth about the family.

Kisaki Tetta also took the opportunity to get involved, but his plan didn't have enough impact to spoil the other plans. Hakkai later apologizes for his actions, and his relationship with Toman's gang improves.

9. Hakkai’s Is not trusted by the Black Dragon Gang

The Black Dragon members also didn’t trust Hakai, as he, Taiju's brother, had joined Toman instead. He was alone in the group, and someone was always watching him. His honor was restored after the events of the fight in the church.

10. Hakkai and Mitsuya are Best Friends

Another big factor in his life is Mitsuya's presence. Once, when Hakkai was beating a child at the playground, Mitsuya approached him. He tells Hakkai that he should only use violence to protect others. They returned to Mitsuya's place, where he told Hakkai his background.

He was moved by kind words, and Mitsuya's pacifism affected him. After this incident, they developed a deep friendship and relied on each other whenever needed. Mitsuya helps him change his life and lays the foundation to free Hakkai from his brother's control.

11. Hakkai’s the Abused Brother of Taiju Shiba 

His older brother Taiju, at least from his perception, did indeed love his brothers very much. But this love, somehow, comes in the form of violence. Taiju wants to teach them discipline, and make them strong individually. This approach made Hakkai hate his brother to the core. It was not unusual for them to fight in front of other people. and Taiju made himself known as a bad individual.

Hakkai Shiba wanted to kill him to solve their problem, but after Takemichi sabotaged his plan, he was unable to act against his brother. Hakkai then decides to no longer stay silent if something happens, and it will never happen again.

12. The Meaning of Hakkai’s Name

The name Hakkai means 'eight commandments', referring to the eight precepts of the Buddhist faith. This name is also familiar in the anime My Hero Academia, where the main antagonist of season 4, Chisaki leads a yakuza organization under the name Shie Hassaikai, which means 'Eight Precepts of Death'.

13. Future Hakkai is a Model

Yuzuha Shiba is Taiju Shiba's younger sister and Hakkai Shiba's older sister. Yuzuha really loves Hakkai. In the future, Hakkai manages to live a peaceful life as a professional model and Yuzuha becomes his manager.

14. Hakkai is Admires Mitsuya 

As a secret admirer of Mitsuya, Hakkai Shiba actually has Mitsuya's photo as the background of his cellphone. Meanwhile, her older sister, Yuzuha, has a photo of Hakkai as her wallpaper.
