JoJo's Bizarre Adventure’s anime and manga is full of iconic characters who have unique personalities with quirky designs. Jotaro Kujo is one example, and he has more fans than any other member of the Joestar family.

1. "Yare Yare Daze" is His Favorite Phrase

Whenever Jotaro Kujo is about to take action, he usually says "Yare yare daze" with a frustrated expression. It turns out that there is no direct, literal translation of this Japanese phrase. The closest English phrase to those words would probably be "Give me a break" or "What a pain."

2. The Most Active JoJo in the Series

No other character in the series appears with the same frequency as Jotaro Kujo. Joseph and Dio appear in three parts of the story, but Jotaro appears in four parts of the story. Jotaro acted as a main character in Stardust Crusaders, Diamond is Unbreakable, a cameo in Vento Aureo, and later a minor character in Stone Ocean.

3. Can Adapt to Time Stop 

In Stardust Crusaders’ final battle, Dio can use Mir to freeze time for up to ten seconds. As the fight progresses, Jotaro Kujo slowly begins to adapt to Time Stop; He developed his own technique with Stand – Star Platinum: The World. Because of that, he was able to follow DIO's movements and finally defeat him.

4. Jotaro Carries the Will of Joestars

Diamond is Unbreakable, Vento Aureo and Stone Ocean are related to the Will of Joestars. Jotaro Kujo is the person who continues the will.

For Jolyne, Jotaro's role as her father makes Stone Ocean explore the parenting aspect of this series, which JoJo's Bizarre Adventure rarely shows in other parts of the storyline. Because of that, Jotaro seemed to really appreciate Joestar's legacy and determination.

5. How His Marriage Ends

Jotaro Kujo may be a good character, but that doesn't mean he's a good husband either. Stardust Crusaders shows a lot about Jotaro's struggle to blend into the society. He's gotten a little better thanks to Diamond is Unbreakable, but his behavior can still cause problems.

Stone Ocean takes a rather painfully realistic approach to Jotaro's personal life. This part of the story reveals that Jotaro's marriage fell apart because he was unable to balance his family life with work. As a result, Jolyne has to see her parents split.

6. Jotaro is a Marine Biologist

In the anime, in his spare time Jotaro Kujo likes to read magazines about marine life. In the manga, Jotaro becomes a marine biologist. The anime version shows Jotaro's love for the maritime field. This may explain why he wears a white suit in Diamonds is Unbreakable and Vento Aureo. Marine biology is Jotaro's passion, he also loves his fish very much.

7. Jolyne is Jotaro’s Weakness

Stone Ocean does not have a happy ending for all the characters involved in the story. Jolyne and Jotaro Kujo have a less than harmonious relationship, and their relationship may not necessarily improve in the end. Jotaro ends up losing his life for Jolyne's wellbeing. Despite all of Jotaro's flaws, he cares deeply for Jolyne. Jotaro is unable to communicate properly with his daughter, and ends up sacrificing his own life for his daughter's happiness.

8. Jotaro was Supposed to Look Like Joseph

Usually family members have something in common with each other, but the constant development of mangaka Araki's artistic style in the JoJo series sometimes makes it difficult to find similarities between Jotaro and Joseph. This is where David Production, who worked on the anime, made a change. In the anime, Jotaro Kujo does look like Joseph when his hat is removed.

Joseph looked much fiercer with his thick eyebrows, but Jotaro's face was definitely similar to his grandfather's. This is even commented on in Part 4 of the story, where Josuke's mother mistook Jotaro for Joseph. Interestingly, there is also no real visual resemblance between Jotaro and his daughter, Jolyne.

9. Jotaro’s Unique Hat

The popular Jotaro Kujo hat features a gold button in the center of the front and a rectangular plate next to the button. The hat was indeed torn and looked like it had blended into Jotaro's hair. That’s why a clear separation between his hair and the hat was made. The separation was made clear with a chain. Araki, the creator of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, explained that the Jotaro hat is a trademark to make it easy for everyone to recognize him from behind.

10. Jotaro’s Unique and Eccentric Costume 

Jotaro Kujo has changed costumes several times in Diamond is Unbreakable. The costume is very unique in the form of a hat and coat with baggy pants that are all white. His first attire consisted of a white collared coat, and the sleeves were trimmed with triangular paving stones with the same pattern as his belt. He wore a sleeveless shirt with a diagonal sash across his chest. His hat is decorated with the letter "J" made of metal.

11. Jotaro’s Name is a Combination of Jojo and Taro

The name Jotaro is a combination of Jojo and Taro. Taro also refers to the name Tarot. Knowing that part 3 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure uses Tarot as part of Jotaro's overall aesthetic and style. It is fitting for Jotaro to be named after this important aspect of Stardust Crusader.

This may also be a way to keep Jotaro's name fairly similar to Jonathan and Joseph's, while still retaining the feel of a Japanese name.

12. Jotaro’s Favorite Film is Never Cry Wolf

Jotaro Kujo's favorite film is Never Cry Wolf. The film was released by Disney under the label Walt Disney Pictures and is considered a masterpiece by many. Never Cry Wolf has a theme of environmental conservation which Jotaro Kujo, who loves marine life, will surely like.

13. Jotaro’s Favorite Musician is Toshinobu Kubota

Jotaro Kujo's favorite musician is Toshinobu Kubota, who has composed countless and popular songs of different genres. His most famous works are songs called 'Love Rain', 'Dance If You Want It', 'La La La Love Song', and so on.

Toshinobu Kubota is one of Japan's best-selling musicians and has sold over 16 million records worldwide in 2020. Seeing how unique Jotaro Kujo's personality is despite his tough demeanor, it's no surprise that his favorite artist is so unique.

14. Has a Better Fate in Another Universe

In the canon, the fate of Jotaro Kujo and characters in the Joestar family is quite tragic. In an alternate story written for the video game JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven, the tragic things take an unexpected turn. This game is basically a cross between every JoJo storyline and in the end only two people survive and face each other namely Jotaro Kujo and Heaven Ascension DIO.

15. Jotaro Kujo Outsmarted DIO and Obtained His Power To Rewrite His Fate

DIO in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven has a special stand called The World Over Heaven that can wipe anything it touches. DIO managed to defeat all the Joestars using this power. However, Jotaro Kujo outsmarted DIO and managed to gain the power to erase DIO and rewrite the fate of his world.

Finally Jotaro made the perfect world for the Joestars where none of the Joestars had to suffer the curse of his bloodline. This automatically brings better luck to Jotaro Kujo and his daughter. Since the version of Jotaro in the universe who did this was his 17 year old self, it gave him the opportunity to be a better parent to his daughter in the future.
