Various kinds of adventure games that feature Viking themes or Norse mythology such as the story of Ragnarok, Thor, Odin, and others are always fun to play. For those of you who are looking for such a title, here is a selection of 18 best games about the Viking, Nordic, and Scandinavian mythology that you can play to experience an adventure in the middle of Fimbulwinter.
1. God of War
God of War I to III do tell stories about Kratos' battle against the Greek gods and Titan giants. However, since the first title of the new trilogy that was released on PS4, God of War moves to the Nordic legend complete with Kratos now armed with a magic ax that acts like Thor's Mjolnir. Years after the fall of the Olympians, Kratos lives with his son, Atreus, on the land of Midgard.
2. Viking: Battle of Asgard
This hack-and-slash adventure game based on Norse mythology tells of a war between gods that spreads to the human lands of Midgard. Goddess Freya's chosen champion, Skarin, is tasked with leading the Viking army to defeat Goddess Hel. Here you are free to explore three islands and save the Vikings who will then help you in every colossal battle when you try to takeover an area.
3. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
Set in 872–878, Valhalla tells the story of the Vikings' entry into the British Isles. Here you control Eivor Varinsdottir, a pirate involved in the centuries-old conflict between the Assassins and the Templars. But you'll also encounter elements of Norse, Irish and other mythologies during your adventure.
4. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
Set in the 8th century, this game follows the journey of Senua, a Celtic Pict warrior, who hails from Orkney, Scotland. She came to the borders of Helheim (or Hel, the Norse myth hell) to save the soul of her lover, Dillion, from the goddess Hela. The sequel is currently in the works.

In this multiplayer survival game, Vikings who died in battle must prove themselves again in the afterlife in order to enter Valhalla, and must face the evil forces that take shelter in Valheim, the 10th world in the Yggdrasil tree in Nordic legend.
6. Tribes of Asgard
Another popular Viking-themed multiplayer survival title is Tribes of Midgard. You must protect the village from the monsters and beasts that come every night to destroy the seeds of the sacred tree Yggdrasil.
7. Northgard
In this strategy game, you are tasked with controlling a group of Vikings to rule and survive in the new land of Northgard, which is full of undead warriors, direwolves, giants, and the harshest winter in the North. Northgard features 11 story mode levels and six Viking clans with different specifications.
8. Expeditions: Viking
In 790 AD, a group of Nordic warriors landed on the shores of England. As their leader, you not only have to fight, but you also have to be good at trading and engage in political discourse inside and outside the clan so that your Vikings can survive in this new land.
9. Dead in Vinland
As the title suggests, in this survival adventure game you have to help Eirik and his family survive on Vinland after being expelled by their Viking tribe. Similar to God of War, Titan Quest initially features a story about Greek mythology. However, through the Ragnarok expansion pack you will be invited to an adventure to Celtics lands, the North, and the abode of the gods of Asgard. This is a Nordic mythology-themed game that you must play if you like Diablo.
13. Viking: Wolves of Midgard
For fans of isometric looter RPGs, another game you can play with your friends is Wolves of Midgard. Explore the lands of Midgard, Niflheim, and Balheim to fight the Jotans and the monsters that come with the beginning of Ragnarok.

If you want a cooperative multiplayer game with beat-em-up or hack-and-slash style, one that you can try is Viking Squad. With cute 2D graphics like Castle Crashers, this game also offers unique gameplay. You and your friends have to fight in three different lines, and the enemy on the most front will hide the enemy behind it. So you all have to launch a special strategy in order to defeat them quickly.
15. Die for Valhalla!
Apart from Viking Squad there is also Die for Valhalla. Here you play as a Valkyrie, a warrior spirit who can possess the corpses of fallen warriors to fight again. Each undead is divided into seven different classes complete with 80 types of skills for your Valkyrie.

17. Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage
Strong icy winds left the Vikings stranded in dangerous places. You have to help and save them back to the ship by cutting the obstacles in front of their paths.

As the Viking Volgarr, you are assigned by Odin to kill a dragon. This beat-em-up platformer game is not only a single player game, but also has a stressful difficulty that can make you pull your hair out! But if you manage to beat one level it will be very satisfying.
19. Age of Mythology
Age of Mythology is a strategy game where gamers are tasked with building cities, defenses, and armies to take down enemies. Basically this game has a similar formula as Age of Empires, but instead of being presented with a choice of kingdoms, gamers will play as one of three ancient civilizations that have the most legendary myths: Greece, Scandinavia (Vikings), including Egypt.
