Are you looking for monster hunting games like Monster Hunter to add to your Android phone? No need to look further, this article has compiled all the best hits! Unfortunately, several Android-exclusives like Rangers of Oblivion or Errant: Hunter 's Soul, Wild Born, Dragon Project, Monster Hunter Dynamic Hunting, and Monster Hunter Explore are all no longer active.
Meanwhile another potential title, Yeager, doesn’t seem to be releasing an Android version any time soon. Well, instead of being sad, it's better to immediately play all these wide selection of monster hunting games.
1. Monster Hunter Stories
Originally released for the 3DS in September 2017, Monster Hunter Stories was brought to iOS and Android a few months later, in December to be precise. You could say this is the Pokemon version Monster Hunter; instead of simply hunting those dangerous creatures, as residents of Hakum Village we have the ability to make friends with them.
Even though it costs around $30, you can download a free demo titled MHST The Adventure Begin and the data can be transferred to the paid version.

>> Download Monster Hunter Stories on Google Play Store
2. Monster Hunter Riders
This gacha game, which is set in the same world as Stories, was released in Japan in February 2020. Pretty sure Capcom isn’t going to release a global version because Riders itself is not popular among Japanese gamers, so you will need a VPN if you are interested in playing it.
Given that many Monster Hunter-like games on Android can't no longer be played anymore, there’s not much choice if you don’t/can’t use emulators.

3. Monster Hunter 3U
And now we enter the emulator part of this list. 3U is the G-Rank version (more complete and gets a new difficulty) from Monster Hunter Tri which was released on the Wii. Both titles add an underwater combat that has not yet appeared in any of the other titles so far. 3U first launched on the 3DS and WiiU in March 2013. Now you can play it on Android with the Citra emulator.
Citra was officially released on the Google Play Store. But if you experience lags or problems, maybe you can try installing the modified version, MMJ.

4. Monster Hunter 4U
This G-Rank version of 4 is the first time that the mounting, vertical maps, and Insect Glaive appeared in the Monster Hunter series, allegedly as a substitute for underwater battles that caused headaches among the playerbase. Global gamers only got the 4U version in February 2015 because Monster Hunter 4 was released exclusively in Japan.
5. Monster Hunter Generations
The last English Monster Hunter game launched on the 3DS in July 2016. A compilation title, Generations includes almost all monsters and maps from Monster Hunter PS2 to 4U complete with new features such as Hunter Arts and a new “weapon”, Prowler, which lets us play as Palico.
6. Monster Hunter XX
In 3DS, this version of G-Rank Generations was actually only released in Japan in March 2017, but dedicated fans have successfully translated it using the assets of the international release on the Switch, so even those of you who don't have Switch can play it.
7. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd
Is your Android smartphone still not capable of running Monster Hunter games with Citra? No need to be sad, because there are still many choices even on PPSSPP! First, there is the last Monster Hunter title to be released on PSP, Portable 3rd or P3rd. Even though it is part of the third generation (along with MH Tri and 3U), this game ditched underwater combat. It is here that Zinogre first showed up as well. This game was officially released exclusively in Japan in December 2010 and got a PS3 port the following year because it sold extremely well.

8. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Before Generations Ultimate, you could say Freedom Unite was the Monster Hunter game that has the most content, compiling all the monsters from PS2 games, PSP, and two monsters from the online game Monster Hunter Frontier: Lavasioth and Hypnocatrice. Nargacuga and Ukanlos also first appeared here. Freedom Unite or FU was launched for the first time to the global market in June 2009.

9. Monster Hunter Freedom 2
The PSP port of as well as the international release of Monster Hunter Dos, a game that is only published in Japan for the PS2. Long Sword, Gunlance, Hunting Horn and Bow - along with Tigrex - make their first appearance for non-Japanese gamers in this second generation title. Freedom 2 was released in August 2007.
10. Monster Hunter Freedom
You could say this is the PSP version of Monster Hunter G, an upgrade to the first Monster Hunter PS2 title which, again, was not released outside of Japan. It was published in May 2006.
11. Toukiden: The Age of Demons
A Monster Hunter-style game with Japanese yokai monsters theme made by Omega Force, a developer owned by Koei Tecmo and the creator of the Dynasty Warriors series. Toukiden first hit the market in February 2014.
Because Toukiden uses the same yokai motif with Japanese historical elements just like Monster Hunter Rise, I think this game series can be a decent alternative if you don't have a Switch yet.
12. Toukiden Kiwami
An upgraded version of Toukiden: The Age of Demons. Since it adds three new weapons (Spiked Club, Naginata, and Rifle), four new NPC assistants, and various extra features, you can say that Kiwami is Toukiden's G-Rank. Japanese developers sure love nickel-and-diming their playerbase, huh.
Originally the PSP version was not released in English, but fans have translated it using the PS Vita, PS4, and PC versions. Kiwami was published in August 2014.
13. God Eater Burst
One of the most famous Monster Hunter-like games on PSP. Made by Bandai Namco, here you and your friends play as Aragami hunters known as a God Eater. You are armed with the God Arc, a weapon that can transform into a sword or a gun. Burst was released in March 2011.
14. God Eater 2
Like Toukiden Kiwami, God Eater 2 does not have an official English translation but luckily it has been worked on by fans. Released in November 2014, the story takes place three years after Burst and features three new weapons: the Shotgun, Boost Hammer, and Charge Spear, as well as new features such as Blood Bullets and Blood Arts.
15. Naruto Shippuden: Kizuna Drive
Here you can form a four-person ninja team and strengthen each member with a variety of ninja scrolls. Different from Ultimate Ninja Impact which still adds a lot of battles against ordinary ninjas, Kizuna Drive focuses more on fighting giant monsters, such as Kurama and fake Shukaku, burly demons, and Three-Headed Guardian Beast. This game was released in March 2011.
16. Lord of Arcana
If you want to play a monster hunting game with heavier fantasy elements complete with magic, you can try this January 2011-released game from Square Enix. You play the role of a Slayer, a monster exterminator in the land of Horodyn. There are five different weapons that you can use for battle; 1 Handed Sword, Mace, 2 Handed Sword, Polearm, and Firelances; some can be used in conjunction with a shield. The more often you use certain weapons the more skills, magic, and combos you can use.
17. The 3rd Birthday
The third and final game in the Parasite Eve series. Returning as Aya Brea, you are assigned to defeat the Twisted, a group of monsters who want to destroy mankind. You are not only armed with modern machine guns but can also command NPC troops or use Overdive powers to teleport or control the bodies of soldiers around you. Unfortunately, unlike most other titles on this list, this March 2011-released game doesn't come with a 4-player cooperative mode.
18. Bounty Hounds
As its title implies, you are a member of a group of mercenaries Bounty Hounds hired to eradicate an alien race so that the planet can be inhabited by mankind. But while carrying out your duties, you end up uncovering a conspiracy involving corporate elites on Earth. In total, this game provides around 500 weapons that you can collect and use. Bounty Hounds was published in September 2006 and also lacks a cooperative mode.
19. Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity
In this futuristic game, you play as a mercenary in outer space. There are four different races that you can choose as your character: Human, Newman (space elf), CAST (a robotic race), and Beast. Each of them has its own armor design and abilities.
Many gamers agree that this series is the "ancestor" of Monster Hunter which has a similar multiplayer gameplay since the multiplayer spinoff of the Phantasy Star series, Phantasy Star Online, was released first in 2000. This particular sequel itself was published exclusively in Japan in February 2011, and as usual, the fans have to work on an English translation.
There are quite a lot of Monster Hunter games that you can play on Android, right? Of course, most of them have to be played via an emulator, but the important thing is that you can play all of these games comfortably via smartphones. Do you agree?
