Akaza is one of the most powerful Demons and the biggest threat for Tanjiro and friends, especially in Kimetsu no Yaiba Movie: Mugen Train. Akaza is a powerful, stubborn demon who loves fighting, especially against powerful Demon Slayers. He patronizes anyone that he deems weak, yet he respects those that he considers worth fighting.

There are several fascinating facts about Akaza from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba that you probably didn’t know. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

1. Stays Alive Even After Being Decapitated by a Nichirin Blade

When a Demon gets their head cut off by a Nichirin Blade, most of the time, they will die. Yet there are some Demons that don’t die after being decapitated, and one of them is Akaza. 

Because of that, the only way to defeat Akaza is by exposing him to sunlight.

2. One of Muzan’s Favorite Demons

Of the many Demons that are close to Muzan, Akaza is one of his favorites due to his loyalty and serious demeanor. Akaza is probably the only Demon that almost reaches Muzan’s level -- aside from his ability to stay alive after being decapitated.

3. He Refuses to Eat Women

Akaza refuses to eat any woman although he can gain powers from doing so as a Demon. As it turns out, it’s related to Akaza’s past. Akaza is the only one of the Twelve Kizuki who doesn’t eat women yet still has insurmountable power.

Evidently, Akaza holds the “Upper Rank 3” title and is the fourth-strongest Demon in the series without killing or eating any woman.

4. Has the Most Tragic Past

In Kimetsu no Yaiba, Akaza is probably a character with the most tragic past. Before he being turned into a Demon, Akaza used to be a human by the name of Hakuji. Hakuji was born in an impoverished area and he had to look after his sickly father.

To treat his father’s illness, Hakuji had to steal money from the people around town and would end up getting caught on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, his father killed himself after knowing that Hakuji had been stealing to get the medicine he needed to stay alive.

Devastated by the loss of his father, and angry at his neighbors, one day, he encountered Keizo, a dojo owner who helped Hakuji, giving him a new “home”.

Keizo brought Hakuji in so that he could take care of his sickly daughter, Koyuki. Not long after living with them, Hakuji got engaged with Koyuki.

The heir of the rival dojo got the rumor regarding Hakuji and Koyuki’s wedding. They gathered several dojo members to fight Hakuji, yet they were defeated by him. After the incident, Hakuji found out that they had poisoned the water well at the dojo. Both Koyuki and Keizo died shortly after unknowingly drinking the water.

Infuriated, Hakuji killed all 67 of the rival dojo members with his bare hands, crushing them to the point that their bodies got beyond recognition. 

This incident piqued Muzan Kibutsuji’s interest, although he’s disappointed to find out that the atrocious act was carried out by a human. So, he decided to turn Hakuji into a Demon, joining the Twelve Kizuki. 

As he had no one to take care of nor a will to live no more, Hakuji accepted the offer and turned into a Demon by the name of Akaza.

5. Was a Good Person Once

Before being turned into a demon, Akaza was a generous, kind-hearted person. He cared deeply about those closest to him, especially his ailing father. Granted, Akaza was also a stubborn young man back when he was a human, but he also had a good heart.

Even as a demon, Akaza still has some of his human traits such as refusing to eat females.

6. Has a Bad Temper

Akaza often loses control of his temper. When he’s angry, Akaza will kill those who infuriate him. As shown when his father passed away, he raged and killed numerous people until he was mentored by Keizo to control his anger.

However, when Keizo and Koyuki eventually got killed, Akaza went berserk and ended up killing more than 60 people just with his bare hands.

7. An Ill-Fated Character

Akaza has always faced bad luck when he was a human and as a demon. From the loss of both of his parents, his fiance and master got killed, to being tortured to the point that he was about to end his own life.

Even as a demon, Akaza never gets the chance to take the top spot of the Upper Ranks despite the staggering number of humans he has killed.

8. Has a Deep Hatred Towards Weak People

He’s always hated people whom he considers weak – Akaza loves to “play” with people and make them beg for their lives. As a human, Akaza has killed several people as he thought they were too weak anyway to survive in a cruel world.

9. The Hashira Killer

When fighting against Rengoku Kyojuro, Akaza said that he has killed numerous Hashiras. He even revealed that he’s lost count of the Hashiras he’s killed before fighting Kyojuro.

Whenever Akaza finds a worthy opponent, he will offer them to become a demon, promising them limitless power and eternal life. However, every single one of them refused them, and that’s why Akaza ended their lives.

10. He’s Always Ready to Fight

Akaza is a highly dangerous demon and is always ready to fight. Akaza will challenge and respect anyone that he believes are stronger than him. When he finds someone worthy, Akaza will demand to know their names and won’t stop until he finds out who they really are.

Therefore, Akaza always remembers all the people that he considers worthy.

11. He Uses His Knowledge of Martial Arts

When he was still a human, Akaza practiced martial arts under Keizo’s teachings. Therefore, after he became a demon,  Akaza still uses his knowledge of the arts to fight against his opponents.

As the Upper Rank 3, Akaza possesses exceptional martial arts skills – which allow him to outmatch the swordsmanship of even the most skilled Demon Slayers. Akaza also possesses Fighting Spirit, which allows him to predict his opponents’ attacks and discern their weaknesses.

12. Able to Sense Demons’ and Humans’ Auras

With his Extrasensory Perception, Akaza is able to sense auras around him. Aside from sensing both humans' and demons’ auras, he can also tell how strong or weak they are. 

13. He Displays High Intelligence in His Fights

Due to his centuries-long experience in martial arts, Akaza is able to fight effectively with his tactical intelligence. Akaza can instantly adapt to any technique or attack his opponent uses, he can even predict when they’re going to attack and come up with the best way to counter them.

14. Lots of Akaza’s Techniques Are Named After Fireworks

Most of the techniques and attacks that Akaza uses are named after fireworks. This is actually a reference to his promise to Koyuki to see the fireworks together before she died.

15. His Appearance Didn't Alter That Much

Unlike most demons, who usually undergo massive physical changes to their appearance upon their demonic transformation, Akaza retained most of his human features as a demon, including his tattoos.

As his bloodthirst for humans grew, the tattoos spread more, symbolizing the number of crimes he has committed.
