One of the many factors that made Roronoa Zoro as strong as he is now is the number of opponents that he has faced. Without them, Zoro could end up as a mediocre swordsman in a weak pirate group. Then, who are these characters? Take a look at the discussion below!

1. Mr. 1

Mr. 1 or Daz Bones is Zoro’s first encounter with a Devil Fruit user. With the ability to turn any part of his body into sharp steel, Mr. 1 has defeated every swordsman he faced. Zoro, who was severely injured, was almost defeated by him.

However, with his strong determination to defeat the strongest swordsman, Dracule Mihawk, Zoro developed in the battle and successfully sliced up Mr. 1’s body. In other words, the second strongest member of the Baroque Works has helped him in his progress.

2. Bartholomew Kuma

After a tiring clash against Oars and Gecko Moria in the Thriller Bark arc, the Straw Hats were still had to keep their guards up since they’re visited with one of the Shichibukai, Kuma, who tried to capture Luffy. As his friend and a good first-mate, Zoro did not let Kuma capture his captain.

After putting up a fight, Zoro realized that Kuma was at a way higher level than him. He was willing to sacrifice himself in exchange for Luffy. Kuma who saw his determination had no intention of killing Zoro, instead, he gave a test to prove his loyalty to the captain.

Even that he’s defeated by Kuma, certainly that has motivated Zoro to keep getting stronger. Kuma had to be credited since he’s the one who took Zoro to get into Mihawk’s.

3. Kizaru

Before being flown by Kuma, Zoro faced Kizaru, although that was another defeat for him. Luckily, when Kizaru was about to hit him with a final blow, Rayleigh quickly came to his rescue. These terribly powerful characters also became one of Zoro’s motivation for getting stronger.

4. Mihawk

The figure who has been Zoro’s biggest obsession holds the title of the Strongest Swordsman in the world. Zoro once encountered and faced him although he had to suffer horrible defeat. From that event, Zoro learned about modesty and always try to learn and to get better/stronger than anyone else.

Without Mihawk, Zoro might only end up as a mediocre swordsman who’s overproud of his average ability. Strangely enough, Mihawk had also become Zoro’s master during his two years of swordsmanship training. Who would be willing to learn from the very person they want to fight in the future? Well, perhaps it’s just Zoro!
