In early 2021, we will have the arrival of the game that shares some similarities with Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley called Coral Island. Developed by Stairway Games, it’s one of the most anticipated games for many gamers in Indonesia.

Why? Here are the reasons.

1. Developed by a Local Game Studio

For those who don’t know, Coral Island is a farm sim game developed by a local game studio. Yup, that’s right, Stairway Games is a studio based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. They recently gained a lot of attention with Coral Island, which not only has stunning visuals but also looks interactive.

2. Disney-Like Visuals

Another reason why Coral Island is one of the most anticipated games in February 2021 is its stunning visuals. From the character design to the 3D rendering of in-game objects, everything looks so impressive.

If you’ve seen the trailer, you may see the details when the character is on the beach. You can see the animation of the wind blowing the leaves. These details certainly bring life to this game. And, it looks like Stairway Games managed to implement it really well.

3. Lots of Activities

While this game gives more emphasis on farm life, there are so many things that you can do in Coral Island! You can mine; fight monsters in the cave to get various kinds of resources; go fish, and build your own house and design the interior as you please.

In comparison to Harvest Moon, this game shares more similarities with ConcernedApe’s Stardew Valley. Yet this one comes with 3D graphics which may be more preferable to certain gamers.

4. Dive In and Meet the Mermaid!

There’s one thing that you can’t do in Stardew Valley is to dive into the ocean. Stairway Games brings this feature into the game, which also serves as the main goal in this game: protecting the coral reefs.

What makes it even cooler is you can find the mermaid, which gives you an option to interact with an NPC even when you’re on the ocean floor. However, Stairway Games is yet to give us more details about the events related to the mermaid.

5. Character Customization

Last but not least, is the character customization, a feature that doesn’t exist in Harvest Moon. Yup, in this game, you can customize your character’s appearance, such as their hairstyle, outfit, or face shape. This feature gives players the freedom to be creative -- and make a character totally based on their preferences.

The writer also expects to see more accessories, such as watches and hats like the ones in Stardew Valley.
