1. The Origin of Asian Kungfu Generation

The name Asian Kungfu Generation is made by the vocalist, Masafumi Goto. When he failed at a university entrance exam, he intended to create a band. After watching Bruce Lee’s film, Goto got an idea to put “Kungfu” into the band that he will form.

Goto also said that he wants to have three English words as the band’s name like Thee Michelle Gun Elephant. Goto thinks that the name is intriguing. Then the name Asian Kungfu Generation is created for his band.

2. Characteristic Asian Kungfu Generation

Initially, the band is heavily influenced by western punk and alternative rock. But as time passes, Asian Kungfu Generation becomes an experimental band that plays various genres. The band that sometimes referred to as Ajikan also collaborated with a ska-jazz band, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra

Most of Asian Kungfu Generation songs have a strong guitar rhythm with emotional lyrics. Fans are also familiar with Goto’s scream. Ajikan becomes the role model of many indie bands in Japan.

3. Naruto Jump-Starts Their Fame

In 2002, on Hokai Amplifier album, Ajikin released Haruka Kanata that becomes the soundtrack of Naruto. The rock song gathers the attention of Naruto fans. This song jump-starts their fame.

Besides Naruto, Ajikan also fills the soundtrack of Bleach with After Dark. Rewrite becomes the song for Fullmetal Alchemist.
