Freya is a key character in the God of War released in 2018 exclusively on Playstation 4. Freya is portrayed by actress Danielle Bisutti. 5. Freya’s Nickname

Freya is known as "Witch of the Wood" who is none other than one of the goddesses in Nordic mythology who helps Kratos and Atreus during their adventure. Freya is the mother of Baldur, the ex-wife of Odin, the step-mother of Thor, and the grandmother of Magni and Mondi. Before serving as an Asgardian Queen, she once commanded the Valkyries, the all-female warriors.

4. Her Marriage Was Not Smooth Sailing

As the ex-leader of Vanir gods, when she appointed as the Queen of Valkyries, she had a deal to marry Odin to make peace between Vanir and Aesir. Freya has three children from her marriage with Odin; Baldur (the most beloved son), Thor (stepson) and Tyr (another stepson). Later, her husband started to learn about her magical powers and use it for personal gain, even Odin used the magic against her and eventually caged her.

3. The Overprotective Mother

Betrayed by Odin, she must accept her destiny. He gave various curses to Freya, including a curse to Freya from leaving Midgard, and this is the worst Odin's action he ever did. Even though she received inappropriate treatments, Freya doesn’t have any choice aside to live in exile. The only thing left from their marriage is her son, Baldur. She loves her child very much even she seen overprotective towards him.

Blinded by suffering and fear of experiencing the pain of losing her child, Freya decided to put a spell on Baldur since he was born. This spell makes Baldur invincible, but the spell also makes Baldur numb to all pain and emotions. Fueled by hatred and rage, Baldur asked her mother to erase the spell on him.

2. A Mother Figure For Atreus

Her appearance in God of War on Playstation 4 somewhat connected to Kratos and Atreus on their quest. As a goddess, Freya can see Kratos’ past as the Greek God of War and she can feel many similarities with Kratos' past and hers.

Their meeting with Freya began when Atreus accidentally hunted down a boar that she protected. As an apology, the duo willingly to cure the boar and the two must pay a visit to her. Freya immediately loves Atreus and become friends as well as his mother figure.

As a goddess of Vanis, Freya is a genius. Her magic can manipulate flora and fauna around her, change her appearance, and place various effects on others. She is also a master of healing and reanimation. In battle, however, due to Odin’s curse, Freya cannot endanger other living beings, but she still can summon flora to hold enemies or calling others to fight on her will.

Even though Freya can’t harm other beings, but it looks like she still can manipulate those to harm others under her command.
