Free Fire will have an update that will introduce a weapon that exists in other Battel Royale games, Thompson. From the “Devlog” page that has been announced before, the addition of Thompson is believed to bring fresh wind for the players that are bored with weapon options.

1. The Name Thompson is Taken from the Inventor

Many think that the name Thompson is inspired by the shape of the weapon, but you are wrong. The name Thompson is taken from the weapon’s inventor, John Taliaferro Thompson in 1918.

This gun is founded during World War 1 and functioned as a “Trench Broom.” John worked alongside Blish when creating Thompson.

2. The Best SMG in World War 2

Although the weapon was founded in World War 1, Thompson is a beastly gun during World War 2. This is all thanks to the mechanic called “Blish Locking System” that was developed by John Thompson and John Blish.

This gun uses .45 ACP bullets that have a high penetration rate when fired. The bullet may even cause a hole with a big diameter called hydrostatic shock.

3. Expensive Price

Because it’s categorized as a high-class gun, the production of Thompson is not easy -- not t mention the gun need a detailed work because of the complex mechanic.

For this reason, the price for a Thompson during World War is not cheap. Although the price is $5 more expensive from its siblings, US M3 and US M341, Thompson’s quality is unparalleled

4. Thompson’s Three Variant

Thompson has not one, but three variants. The variants have a trademark of the Thompson’s that was made on different years.

The first variant is M1928 that is known as the first model from John Thompson, the creator. The next model is M1928A1, this model is created in1941-1943 for England and the United States. The firing rate of the second model is lowered from 800 rpm to 700 rpm because the model is simplified.

The last model is M1 and M1A1, this is the Thompson variant that is used in 1943-1945. This Thompson variant no longer uses Blish Locking System since the new mechanic is believed to be simpler.

5. Produced 1,75 Million Times

Thompson is a weapon with high interest even though it’s expensive and it has been produced 1,75 million times! The number is a result of combining the number of production of the three variant:

• 562,511 from M1928A1
• 285,480 from M1
• 539,143 from M1A1
