Thriller remains one of the most popular genres among movie enthusiasts, bringing puzzles and mind games that intrigue fans into figuring out what lies beyond them. And the more intricate the plot and puzzles go, the better the thriller movie is going to be.
As one of the best streaming services in the world, Netflix offers quite a selection of thriller movies for you to enjoy, with five among them being considered some of the best thriller movies on the platform.
Watch out for the thriller night, ‘cause no one’s gonna save you from these thrilling movies!
1. Gerald’s Game
Unlike many typical horror movies, Gerald’s Game truly brings something unique to the table with the sound effects and atmosphere throughout the movie that continue to scare you instead of some jumpscares, hence why people consider it a legendary horror movie.
Gerald’s Game depicts the story of a woman who attempts to break out of the inn alone, despite her initial plan to go on a romantic vacation with her husband Gerald who sadly passed away due to heart attack.
As it turns out, the woman is still bound on the bed and struggling to release herself, all while getting clouded in negative thoughts which becomes the scariest part of the movie.
Audiences are left to wonder what’s going to happen in every scene and how the woman is going to get herself out of the situation.
2. Bird Box
Released in 2018, Bird Box is still one of the best thriller movies on Netflix that you should watch, setting itself in a post-apocalyptic world where viewers must bear witness to horrible phenomenons from start to finish.
It all began when the world got caught in a catastrophe that caused people to commit suicide left and right for no reason, or at least it was until the survivors found out the whole suicides were caused by some entities who push people to commit suicide the moment they look at the entities.
From there on comes the story of a mother called Malorie, played by Sandra Bullock who must survive with her two children through an unorthodox way: Cover their eyes to avoid ever seeing the entities. Although the puzzles are a bit confusing at times, the movie’s still entertaining to follow through.
3. The Invitation
The Invitation is a thriller movie with tons of suspenses hiding in the corners through the horror aspects the viewers can hardly predict, hence why it’s very enjoyable to watch.
Everything starts with a simple premise; a man called Will who’s played by actor Marshall-Green is invited for dinner with his girlfriend. However, everything goes south when he realizes a bit too late that the dinner is full of horrifying people with malicious intentions.
Marshall-Green really brings the movie to life with his performance as Will who keeps getting on the edge due to being overwhelmed with grief, as well as the filmmaker Karyn Kusama’s genius skill in elevating the horror elements of the movie.
Even in the most peaceful situation, viewers can’t catch a break as the horrors, surprises and everything else in the movie will keep their eyes peeled for what comes after.

4. Cam
Cam is a modern thriller movie about the depiction of cyber crimes, explaining how a person’s life can take a drastic turn due to her ambition and identity during the internet era.
Madeline Brewer plays Alice, a person whose ambition is to become famous on the internet and she will stop at nothing to achieve her goal until something horrifying happens to her.
Alice’s identity and face are stolen by an anonymous person who ruins her internet career, and she becomes afraid and desperate to uncover the one behind this identity thief, all while expressing the fear and emotion that viewers will find very disturbing.
Scriptwriter Isa Mazzei and producer Daniel Goldhaber made this movie very dynamic with contents that leave the viewers puzzled occasionally while creating even more intense situations throughout the entire movie.
5. Apostle
Words of warning, if you’re afraid of gores and blood, please stay away from this movie. As for those who can take gores and blood, Apostle is one of the best thriller movies you should definitely watch, especially considering the director Gareth Evans made this movie unlike the majority of his movies like the action-packed The Raid.
Apostle tells the tale of a man who infiltrates a village to find a terrifying cult that kidnaps his sister, all wrapped in a slow burn-type of story that continues to intensify and keeps you on your seat.
Although a bit slow, the story rewards you with some jaw-dropping moments that surprise everyone, as if Evans is really testing everyone’s patience to its limit until the real meat of the matter finally unveils itself.
Really, if you’re into gore and thriller, Apostle is a must-watch.
