God of War has always been synonymous with giant monsters. In God of War which was released in 2018 for PS4, there were also a number of monsters from Norse mythology that appeared, one of which was the World Serpent or Jormungandr. But did you know that in Norse mythology there are other monsters that have yet to make their debut in God of War and may appear in God of War Ragnarok. Who are they? Check out the following discussion.
1. Fenrir
Fenrir is the most popular creature in Norse mythology. He is described as a very savage giant wolf. In Norse mythology, Fenrir is said to be the son of Loki and Angroboda. Fenrir's appearance began when the Aesir gods resurrected him to stop wreaking havoc in the Nine Realms, but he grew so fast and caused so much trouble that they decided to chain him up.
But in God of War, Fenrir is actually mentioned as the mortal enemy of the Aesir nation and is still a brother to Hel and Jormungandr. Fenrir exists to kill Odin during Ragnarok. In addition, Fenrir also has two children named Skoll and Hati who were shown with the embodiment of the moon and sun statues. It will certainly be interesting to see Fenrir appear to meet Kratos in the next God of War series.
2. Skoll and Hati
As previously explained, Skoll and Hati are the children of Fenrir, a giant wolf who is bound by the gods so as not to cause disaster. In Norse mythology, the two giant wolves are told to chase two celestial bodies, namely the sun and the moon. One of the signs that Ragnarok is about to begin is that the Skoll managed to eat the Sun, and hati managed to swallow the moon. After that, the Nine Realms would suffer a long winter. But because Odin controls the wolves, he believes that he also has control over the occurrence of Ragnarok.
Therefore, Kratos instigated Fimbulwinter by killing Baldur first before Ragnarok. Plus Skoll and Hati are expected to continue their pursuit as Fimbulwinter rages on.
3. Kraken
In Norse mythology, Kraken is also one of the monsters described as a terrible giant octopus. Kraken's body size is almost the size of a large island. Kraken is very powerful, with a large number of tentacles, he is able to sink and blow enemy ships in front of him. Actually, Kraken appeared in God of War 2 as a boss character. But the Kraken shown is based on Greek mythology. But of course it's very interesting to look back at the Norse mythological version of Kraken in God of War: Ragnarok.

4. Hafgufa
Hafgufa is a creature that fills the ocean in Norse mythology. The original form of this creature has never been known, but rumors say that Hafgufa is shaped like a whale and appears when the sea is receding. When the sea is receding, Hafgufa will only show its nose. When viewed from a distance Hafgufa will look like two stones that rise from the sea. But if someone approaches it will look like an island with fruit trees. If anyone dared to approach and get down on its back, Hafgufa would immediately dive in and harm that person.
5. Jotnar - Ymir
In Norse mythology, Jotnar is a giant who has the power equal to the gods. Jotnar’s name means "prey" so with that Jotnar has always been the enemy of the gods and symbolized chaos. Uniquely, even though it is an enemy of the gods, it turns out that the God of Asgard has Jotnar's blood. Examples are Odin and Thor are half Jotnar.
In God of War, Ymir is the first Jotun to exist in the Nine Realms. Ymir is created when there is only a huge void known as Ginnungagap. It is created from the ancient elements of fire and ice, the two elements unite and form the lifeblood for Ymir and the giants. In God of War, Ymir takes the giants out of his armpits and gives them life. Until finally the Aesir who are half-Jotnar descendants think that they are superior and try to dominate other creations.
With this goal in mind, Odin and his brothers fought their creator and managed to finish off Ymir by pointing his spear at Ymir. Torn Ymir's flesh apart and used by Odin to make Midgard for himself.
