Read Dead Redemption 2 became one of the video games that received warm reviews from gamers. This game appears more solid and powerful which makes it a perfect story that continues the superiority of the first Red Dead Redemption. In this game, Rockstar Games includes a number of interesting things.
One of them is to include a number of movie references so that it brings up an interesting easter egg for us to know. Then what are the western movie references that appear in this game? The author will discuss a number of interesting things about western movie references in the game Red Dead Redemptions 2.
The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford
Perhaps the most obvious movie reference is The Assassination of Jesse James by Coward Robert Ford. This mission requires Arthur and a small group of characters to rob a train and its passengers. Well, this mission cutscene is actually taken from the movie.
The position of the gang hiding in a nearby tree and illuminated by a passing train was taken straight from the movie, Arthur blocking the tracks and standing on the barricade as the train slowly approached.
Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid
One of the best western movies of all time, Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid is a big inspiration for the game Red Redemption 2. Most of the plot in this game is inspired a lot by the movie because it also involves a group of cowboys who run from the law after a series of crimes and robberies.
The train robbery in the opening is also one of the things in Butch Cassidy and the scene where Dutch and his henchmen jump off a cliff into a river is also one of the references of the movie.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
An old movie that has survived to this day, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is one of the most influential western movies ever made. In Red Dead Redemption 2, Hosea tells a funny and interesting story about his near-death experience. While he was being hanged, a stranger appeared and shot the rope before he was punished so that his life could be saved.
It's a reference to The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’s opener which sees Clint Eastwood's character save Tuco from being hanged by shooting a rope.
There Will Be Blood
Maybe this isn't a direct reference like the others, but the subplot involving Leviticus Cornwall bears a strong resemblance to Daniel Day-Lewis's story in There Will Be Blood. The movie's protagonist is Daniel Plainview, and like Cornwall, he is a stubborn and ruthless businessman who makes his fortune from oil.
Red Dead Redemption 2 also has a story that discusses capitalism and the beginning of modern civilization.
Django Unchained
Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained is one of the best cowboy movies we can watch. One of the highlights was when Schultz and Django lured a group of KKK members in a trap and killed many of them with time explosions.
The sequence of incompetent and groping KKK members is reflected in the many random encounters throughout this game. Although not a direct reference, Rockstar uses Tarantino's style of criminals being served in ridiculous ways.
