As an animation studio that is still relatively new, Mappa Studio has extraordinary achievements. It can be seen from the quality of the pictures and the slick animations made by Mappa Studio and has received praise from many people. Mappa Studio was founded in 2011 and their anime usually ended up becoming popular, not only in Japan, but also worldwide. Since then, the studio has managed to find success with its animation. 

Mappa Studio produced many great anime. What are the cool recommended anime that you can watch? Here’s the list.

1. Kids on The Slope

Mappa Studio's first animation is titled Kids on the Slope or Sakamichi no Apollon. Directed by Shinichiro Watanabe and Yoko Kanno as composers. Like Cowboy Bebop, this anime also involves Maruyama as a producer. It’s set in the 1960s in Japan, with three high school students with different personalities united through the power of jazz music.

This anime tells the story of their high school years filled with interesting conflicts such as first love and finding their identity. This anime is a perfect example of how a story and animation can work together to create a masterpiece. The complex story is brought to life in this anime thanks to the fluid and sharp animations. The hum of jazz music that is fun to enjoy in this anime also flows along with the development of the characters' stories. 

2. Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen is an anime that began airing in 2020 which is an adaptation of the manga by Gege Akutami of the same name. Many people think that this anime is the best shounen anime of 2020. The selling point of this anime is that it’s different from other shounen anime.

The storyline is really fun and many people think that Mappa Studio has made this series more interesting with its stunning animation quality. The fans also considered the opening and ending of Jujutsu Kaisen to be very impressive and even went viral on various social media.

Many people think that this anime is the best anime by Mappa Studio. Along with the broadcast of this anime, the total sales of the manga also increased to become one of the best-selling mangas in 2020. Jujutsu Kaisen is highly recommended to watch, especially for fans of the action magical genre.

It’s an anime about school life with mysterious things happening and there are people who can stop it, and they are called sorcerers. Yuuji Itadori, who accidentally eats a finger-shaped cursed object, enters a magic school in Tokyo called Jujutsu. You can watch this awesome anime on Netflix.

3. Attack on Titan

In 2020 leading up to 2021, Mappa Studio's name is getting more and more popular because they decided to continue the Shingeki no Kyojin or Attack on Titan animation project that was previously held by Studio Wit. This received rave reviews as well as criticism from many people. Some believe in the animation quality of Mappa Studio, but many are skeptical because of the studio change considering that Attack on Titan is one of the most popular anime in the world. Even so, Mappa studio managed to show its ability and produce a good anime in a relatively short time.

Attack on Titan tells the story of mankind's war against Titans. Eren Jaeger, who during the early seasons of the anime was the protagonist who hated Titan, turned into an antagonist in the final season. You can watch all seasons on Netflix.

4. In This Corner of the World

This anime by Mappa Studio is perfect to watch if you like slice of life stories. The genre is historical and slice of life and is set in Hiroshima during the second world war. The action scenes made by Mappa Studio are amazingly good, but this studio is also good at animating scenes that are calmer, relaxed, and touching.

In This Corner of The World or Kono Sekai no Katasumi Ni is a movie. This anime is adapted from a manga with the same title by mangaka Fumiyo Kono which was made from 2007 to 2009 and was adapted into animation in 2016 and this series is also very popular until it got a live action series in 2018.

This story tells of Suzu Urano, a young woman who has a talent for illustration and drawing. She married Shusaku who was 4 years older than her and worked as an officer in the Imperial Japanese Navy. After the marriage, she went to live with her husband's family in Kure, Hiroshima and she liked to draw warships that docked there, including the Yamato.

The conflict began when Japan was in the midst of the second world war and the country finally lost. The city of Hiroshima, which is one of the centers of Japanese military bases, was hit by the world's first atomic bomb attack by the United States. Suzu had to lose her loved ones as well as her right hand, which was very precious to her. 9 days after the bombing, Suzu slowly begins to move on for herself and those around her. Many good motivations can be obtained by watching this anime.

5. Yuri!!! On Ice

Yuri!!! On Ice is quite different from other sports anime which usually focuses on competitions between high schools or schools, Yuri!!! On Ice takes the background of professional athletes and their struggle in each competition. The work that has gone viral is an original animation by Mappa Studio that focuses on Figure Skating.

This sport became popular in Japan in 2012 at the Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia, when a Japanese athlete managed to get a gold medal in figure skating. Mappa Studio itself admits that the growing popularity of the sport is one of the reasons why this anime can continue to the production stage.

It tells the story of Yuri Katsuki, a figure skater from Japan who has just lost in an international event. When he felt his career was coming to an end and thought about retiring. The video of him doing ice skating was seen by Victor, a figure skating legend from Russia who has won the international figure skating competition 5 times in a row. Victor decides to go to Japan and become Yuri's coach. This came as a surprise to many, considering that Victor was at the peak of his career. Since then, Yuri's world has changed for the better.

6. Kakegurui

Another popular anime by Mappa Studio is Kakegurui which was released in 2017. This anime is about a school that encourages gambling. The student council president of this school is Momobami Kirari. However, her leadership begins to falter when Jabami Yumeko arrives at the school.

Jabami Yumeko is a gambling maniac who is willing to risk everything. During her time as a student there, Yumeko was eager to face the student council president. Because she thinks that only Kirari can satisfy her gambling lust. However, Yumeko also has to beat the student council members. To make it more challenging, Kirari brings her family clan, Momobami, to compete with Yumeko as well in gambling.
