Electronic Arts and DICE (Digital Illusions CE), known for their critically acclaimed warfare video game series Battlefield, have introduced their new installment in the series called Battlefield 2042. Gamers are very much looking forward to the latest entry of the Battlefield series which has always been compared with the rival Call of Duty series as a First Person Shooter (FPS) video game series with different themes and settings in each title.

After the previous success with a world war-themed Battlefield game, Battlefield 2042 is going to offer a new war game with a futuristic theme. If you’re a massive fan of Battlefield, check out these six fun facts about the upcoming Battlefield 2042 which is going to be the most exciting sequel in the series!

1. 14th Title of the Most Exciting Battlefield Series

Battlefield 2042 is the latest installment of the most exciting Battlefield series as the 14th title, of which the series began in 2002 with their first revolutionary world war game called Battlefield 1942.

The game is considered revolutionary for providing a unique multiplayer gameplay where up to 64 players must occupy the opposing players’ headquarters with each character’s job class, ability and weapons, all of which within the land, air and even sea by using a variety of war vehicles. Saying those concepts alone was mouth-watering for gamers back in 2002 as Battlefield 1942 had garnered a lot of loyal fans.

Even almost 20 years later, fans are still looking forward to the latest Battlefield titles. After Battlefield 1942 came out, the developers frequently released newer games like Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Battlefield Bad Company, Battlefield Heroes, Battlefield 1943, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Battlefield Hardline, Battlefield 1, Battlefield V and then Battlefield 2042. Aside from those main titles, the developers have also released Expansion Packs and Downloadable Contents (DLC) to further enrich the experience.

2. Set in Futuristic War of 2042

With every title in the Battlefield series offering different settings and eras of warfare, it’s only natural for Battlefield 2042 to set in a new era, this time in the future age of 2042. But unlike Battlefield 2142 that takes players into a very futuristic era, Battlefield 2042 is set in the next 20 years by showing how destructive a potential war can be in the not so distant future.

According to the game’s synopsis, a worldwide conflict is ensuing in 2042 due to the depleting natural resources that every nation attempts to snatch, global warming which increases the sea water surface, global pandemic, natural disasters along with global financial crisis. This not-so-distant-future is such a fresh take for gamers after they’ve enjoyed plenty of Battlefield’s World War II-theme titles like Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Heroes, Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield V, along with World War I-theme Battlefield 1 and Vietnames War-theme Battlefield Vietnam.

And unlike Battlefield 2, Battlefield Bad Company, Battlefield, Battlefield Bad Company, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline which utilize weaponries of the present time, Battlefield 2042 is going to feature some futuristic yet realistic weaponries unlike the typical sci-fi weapons.

3. Only Features Multiplayer Like Classic Battlefield Titles

Since its release, gamers have fallen in love with the Battlefield series for its multiplayer mode. Additionally, just like the previous titles like Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield 1943 which only offer multiplayer mode, Battlefield 2042 is also rumored to not feature a Single Player Campaign or Story Mode. Perhaps the developers hope gamers won’t become bored of this title considering the nature of Story Mode tends to get pretty boring after a first playthrough.

With this multiplayer mode, you can play as many times as you want without getting tired of the competitive gameplay to be the best among the online players. There are infinite amount of satisfaction and excitement to be found in Battlefield 2042 with its competitive online leaderboard, collectable cosmetic items and character stats development.

4. Can Host up to 128 Players At Once for Next-Gen Consoles and PC

Massive-scale warfare is a staple to the popular Battlefield series. For Battlefield 2042, the developers are going to amp up the scale even further by allowing you to fight in a battlefield that can host up to 128 players! Battles of this magnitude can be enjoyed in Battlefield 2042 for next-gen consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X, as well as PC.

For players with older consoles like PS4 and Xbox One, Battlefield 2042 can still be enjoyed with up to 64 players competing at once. But no matter how many players are on the field, you’ll be able to enjoy a massive-scale battle with incredible graphics and immersive sound effects.

5. Offers Fully Interactable Maps Across the Nations

As one of the biggest multiplayer games from the Battlefield series, Battlefield 2042 is going to offer unique and exotic maps across the world. For example, you can commence warfare in Singapore with a map that consists of harbor and containers, allowing you to hide and prepare for an ambush in every corner of the map.

There are also large-scale maps in South Korea, India, Qatar and even Antarctica. There are three playable modes: All-Out Warfare, Hazard Zone and a secret mode that is yet to be released to the public. All-Out Warfare is a classic Battlefield mode consisting of two game types: Conquest where players must snatch each others’ headquarters as many as possible, and Breakthrough where players destroy the opposing players’ headquarters while defending their own.

Meanwhile, Hazard Mode is a teamwork-reliant mode. As for the Battle Royale mode like the Firestorm that was previously available in Battlefield V, Battlefield 2042 is not going to feature this mode.

6. Is Going to Come Out on October 22 2021

Take note, Battlefield 2042 is going to come out on October 22 this year for PC, available on Origins, Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as consoles like PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

Game studio DICE is going to showcase Battlefield 2042’s exciting gameplay on June 13 2021. Expect to see some high-tech warfares with drones, robots and a jumpsuit that allows you to glide like a sugar glider in this game. There’s also going to be some natural disasters like tornadoes during the war, which amps up the potency and excitement of the futuristic wars in Battlefield 2042.
