Hanma Shuji is one of the villains or antagonists in Tokyo Revengers, who is also known as the number 2 person in Valhalla, a gang of delinquents bearing the symbol of a headless angel. Are you interested in Valhalla’s frontman Hanma Shuji? Here are the 6 facts about him!
1. The Tallest Character in Tokyo Revengers
If you thought Draken was the tallest character in Tokyo Revengers, then you must have been surprised when he met someone taller than him, Hanma Shuji, Valhalla’s vice-chairman in a brawl on October 31, 2005. Yes, Hanma Shuji's height is 192 cm, his tall posture that almost reaches 2 meters makes him the most gigantic character in this anime.
In Tokyo Manji's fight against Valhalla, which is located in a car dump, Hanma looks taller than everyone. His height advantage allows him to beat opponents who are shorter than him, including Draken because Hanma's attack range with his long arms and legs can easily reach his target.
2. A Villain with Tattoo on the Back of His Hands
Every anime must have an antagonist or villain who has a unique character design to attract people's attention and make them distinguishable. This also applies to Tokyo Revengers, in addition to the appearance of a bespectacled villain named Kisaki Tetta, Hanma Shuji who is Tetta's representative in Valhalla has a characteristic that is quite easy to remember.
Besides his tall stature and unique hairstyle, Hanma Shuji has 2 tattoos on the backs of his hands which make him more intimidating. The 2 Japanese kanji tattoos read "Tsumi" which means "sin" and "Batsu" which means "punishment". This intimidating philosophy fits with the use of his 2 fists by making sins with his hands and also punishing his enemies through his fists as well.
3. Temporary Leader of Moebius
Moebius was a motorcycle gang that was ruling Shinjuku and was led by Osanai until he was finally stabbed by a knife by Pah-Chin, the founder of Tokyo Manji. Osanai's absence makes Moebius select a new interim chairman named Hanma Shuji. That's the debut of Hanma Shuji in Tokyo Revengers.
In fact, the cunning and clever Kisaki Tetta is the mastermind behind all the clashes between Moebius and Tokyo Manji. August 3, 2005, the night where Moebius battled Tokyo Manji, was arranged by Kisaki Tetta, with Hanma as the most prominent person in the feud and intending to destroy Tokyo Manji.

The nickname "Undefeated Mikey '' is not just a decoration but is often proven by his fighting prowess and accompanied by a deadly move called "Nuclear Kick" that can knock down his enemy in one hit. Unfortunately, Mikey's prowess is matched by the toughness of Hanma Shuji, even Mikey's "Nuclear Kick" is easily blocked by Hanma with his bare hands.
His superiority in height helps him parry the deadly kick of Mikey who is much shorter than him. Until the end of Moebius' brawl with Tokyo Manji, which was stopped by the police, Mikey couldn’t beat Hanma.
5. Co-Founded Valhalla and Become Its Vice-Chairman
The defeat of Moebius in a battle against Tokyo Manji on August 3, 2005, made the delinquent group ruling Shinjuku disappear. Before escaping from the fighting arena, Hanma Shuji gave Mikey an ultimatum that he would co-found Valhalla and become its vice-chairman.
The headless angel that became Valhalla’s symbol has a deeper meaning which means they are a leaderless group, that's why Hanma Shuji led the group as a vice-chairman. Hanma also has the authority to conduct a series of admissions tests for new members, who also inducts Baji by giving him the white jacket with the Headless Angel logo.
6. A Loyal “Sword” of Kisaki Tetta from Adolescent to Adult
Previously the cunning Kisaki Tetta used Osanai to aid his evil plans, it turns out that Osanai was just a stepping stone after Tetta got a new "sword" named Hanma Shuji. All of Tetta's plans for power are carried out by Hanma, for example, Tetta who become Valhalla’s shadow leader while being Tokyo manji’s 3rd division entrusts entrusted Valhalla to Hanma.
Almost all of Hanma's life was dedicated to Tetta, from when he was a teenager to adulthood he faithfully became Tetta’s sword. After meeting Hinata Tachibana in 2017, Takemichi runs into an adult Hanma in a public restroom. Hina's murder by Akkun whom Tetta threatened through Hanma was proof of the sword's loyalty to its master.
