J.K. Simmons is an actor who is iconic for his performance as J.J. Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, Spider-Man Far From Home, and Spider-Man No Way Home. Besides taking part in Marvel films, Simmons also played as Inspector Gordon in Batman v Superman and Justice League from DC.
Simmons received an Oscar in 2015 for starring in Damien Chazelle's Whiplash. 1. "J.K." stands for "Jonathan Kimble"
J.K. Simmons was born with the full name Jonathan Kimble Simmons. “Kimble” is his mother's surname. Simmons uses his real name as his stage name, although the name "J.K." also famous in the entertainment world by the name of the author of the Harry Potter books, namely J.K. Rowling. Simmons popularized the name "J.K." long before Rowling wrote Harry Potter.
2. Simmons Knee Injury Ended His Career as an American Football Player
As a teenager growing up in Ohio, J.K. Simmons was an American Football player for several years. But his knee injury stopped him from playing, so then he switched his interest.
“I went from being an athlete to a hippie,” Simmons told The Guardian. Simmons added, “It was a very clear decision. I have to be one of them. I had to leave other aspects of myself behind. Quickly, I was back with the hippies, listening to Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin songs.”
3. He Studied Music in College, Which Helped Him Win an Oscar
J.K. Simmons graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in music. His studies there included concentrations in sound, musical composition, and conducting. Although he eventually made a career in acting instead of becoming a musician, his background in music education helped him play Terence Fletcher in the film Whiplash which won him an Oscar.
Although Simmons got his degree for studying music, in fact he was not very good at playing a musical instrument. He may know the scale, but don't ask Simmons to play Beethoven's symphony. Apparently, Simmons could never be a musician. "I don't play any music that could be considered valuable," he joked to the Los Angeles Times.
“I am a singer, composer, and conductor. I tried to play 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' on every instrument in the orchestra. But I can't play it well. Even my children are playing piano better than me." Simmons said.

4. Often Worked with Sam Raimi
Two directors who frequently collaborate with J.K. Simmons is Sam Raimi and Jason Reitman. Simmons worked with Raimi on the baseball romantic drama For the Love of the Game (1999) and the paranormal thriller The Gift (2000)
Along with Sam Raimi, Simmons went on to become part of Marvel comics history with his outstanding role as the head of the Daily Bugle newspaper named J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man trilogy.
5. He Played America's President in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3
J.K. Simmons appeared as the anti-communist President of the United States named Howard T. Ackerman in the video game Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 and for a series of promotional advertisements that parodied the 2008 presidential election.
In this ad, Simmons as Ackerman offers himself as an alternative to another unnamed presidential candidate and he uses the slogan "Vote 4 me, if you want to live"
6. He Played Cave Johnson in Portal 2 and Lego Dimension
In April 2011, J.K. Simmons appears in Portal 2 as the voice of Aperture Science founder Cave Johnson. He reprised his role as Cave Johnson again in the video game Lego Dimensions in 2015.
