DreadOut is an Indonesian-made indie horror game developed by Digital Happiness for the Microsoft Windows platform. The first version of DreadOut was officially released on April 3, 2013, with the popularity of this game skyrocketing on the internet and became the most played horror game, and was the first Indonesian game that was always played by foreigners on the internet.

1. Linda Melinda

Linda Melinda is the protagonist of DreadOut and one of the high school students trapped in an abandoned village. She is shown to have some supernatural powers.

Linda is a strong-willed person with a contemplative personality, Although she appears tough on the outside, she is also very sensitive. She often put the interests of her friends above her own. She can be reckless at times, but her intuition tends to save her through whatever obstacles she encounters.

2. Shakira "Ira" Irawati

Shakira Irawati or commonly called Ira is Linda's close friend in DreadOut. Ira has a kind, cheerful, and gentle personality, especially when she is with Linda.

Despite being older, she was shyer and less daring than Linda. Ira mentions when she is afraid of her teacher who is dressed like a pocong, implying that she is easily frightened by supernatural beings. Ironically she was possessed at the beginning of the game. Ira doesn't seem to like conflict, as seen when she tries to quell Shelly and Yayan's feud, which shows that Ira loves peace.

3. Shelly Angelia

Shelly Angelia is a high school girl who is the most fashionable in DreadOut. Shelly is a young girl with a cheerful character. She is shown to be the teacher's favorite child too, as she tends to follow Mrs. Siska wherever she goes and doesn't like it when the teacher leaves her alone. Shelly is sometimes shown to be quite presumptuous to others and speaks with a unique accent.

4. Doni Maulana

Doni Maulana is a high school boy who likes to joke around to break the tense air. Doni appears as a fun-loving person who also seems adventurous. He was the only one who thought that getting lost due to a collapsing bridge accompanied by a desolate ghost village was something extraordinary.

Unlike the other students, he does not appear intimidated by his surroundings, shown when he blindly ventures headfirst into the ghost village, and stubbornly gets into situations that are deemed dangerous.

5. Yayan

Yayan is a smart high school boy from DreadOut. Yayan seems to be a genius student. As Shelly puts it, he is a “know-it-all” person, which is a term for smart people.

Nonetheless, he seems to have a mischievous side as well, such as wrestling with Doni early in the game and even getting into an abandoned old school building out of curiosity, though he ultimately fails to get out of it. Shelly has stated that he is also a bit of a pervert, due to a statement Yayan made to her: if Shelly becomes a ghost and still maintains her sexy and beautiful appearance, Yayan won't mind.

6. Mariska "Siska" Gandasasmita

Mariska Gandasasmita or commonly called Ms. Siska is a teacher who looks kind and wise from a high school in DreadOut.

As a young woman, she has a stronger sense of responsibility than her students, and has been shown to be concerned on several occasions for the safety of her students. Siska also seems to admire the field of education, and is very good at this job.

However, at the end of the game, it seems that Mrs. Siska actually has an evil side, as she taunts Linda by whispering something to her before tying her up roughly. Actually, Mrs. Siska is the mastermind behind all the calamities in this game.
