Without a doubt, the Tokyo Manji motorcycle gang has a lot of members with various personalities and distinguished looks. One of its members, Nahoya Kawata, is quite prominent in the anime and manga because of his uniqueness. Not only that, he also holds a high position in the gang and possesses extraordinary strength.

1. Smiley’s Eccentric Appearance

Smiley or Nahoya Kawata is seen wearing 2 kinds of clothes in the manga and only 1 type of clothes in the anime because the anime series is still in the early stage.

In the anime, Smiley is seen wearing the official uniform of the Tokyo Manji motorcycle gang. The uniform consists of a black jacket and pants with yellow kanji as well as a white belt and white boots.

In the manga, Smiley also wears the Tokyo Manji uniform and the clothes he wore when he was the leader of the Twin Devils Gang along with his twin, Angry. The Twin Devils Gang look she wore was a white bomber jacket with black stripes and colorful Japanese-style artsy patterns. There is also a design on the back with a half demon and half human face that contrasts with its twin. This look can be seen on the cover of the manga, specifically in Volume 15 of the Tokyo Revengers manga.

Throughout the series, Smiley has frizzy orange hair that is shaped like a smooth peach. He has a small body, and of course his iconic smile that earned him the nickname Smiley. He also wears 2 silver earrings on his left ear.

2. A Unique Personality

The personality of Nahoya Kawata or Smiley is very difficult to predict because he is alway smiling. No matter what the circumstances, his smile never disappeared even when he was fighting. One thing for sure is that Smiley will always go out of his way to protect his brother.

Unlike his twin brother, Smiley likes to fight. He is very loyal to the Tokyo Manji Gang and cares for every member he is close to. However, he is willing to do anything for his brother even if it means having to fight Tokyo Manji.

3. As Powerful as Mikey

Just like Mikey, Nahoya Kawata or Smiley also has a small and slim body. Even so, he was very strong in terms of fighting power and a veteran also in terms of combat. He is present in almost all of the Tokyo Manji Gang fights against other gangs and is deeply dedicated to the organization.

4. Tokyo Manji’s 4th Division Captain

As the Captain of the 4th Division, Nahoya Kawata aka Smiley has complete control over the division. He has also served as the leader of the Twin Devils Gang which is proof that he has experience in dealing with delinquents.

5. His Past as Twin Devils’ Leader

Not much is known about the history of Nahoya Kawata other than he and his brother were the leaders of the Twin Devils Gang. This gang was formed by the Kawata twinS and was inspired by Meguro. The Twin Devils gang often clashes with Kanji Mochizuki's gang, the Jugem Gang, which operates in the Kawasaki area.

The Twin Devils Gang was then disbanded. Smiley and Angry also serve under the Tokyo Manji Gang as the Captain of the 4th Division and its Vice-Captain.

6. Has a Twin Brother Named Souta Kawata Who is His Polar Opposite

Souta Kawata or Angry is the twin brother of Nahoya Kawata. Just like his brother, he has a unique characteristic about his face. Souta always looks angry but even so, he has a calm nature. The way to tell the twins apart by looking at their faces is that their hair has a different color where Angry's hair is blue and Smiley's hair is orange.

7. His Appearance Is Very Distinctive in the Tokyo Revengers

Nahoya Kawata first appeared in Chapter 22 of the Tokyo Revengers Manga. He arrived at the scene of the brawl on August 3, 2005 when Shuji Hanma ordered all members of Moebius to kill Mikey and Draken. Smiley participates in a mass fight between the two gangs and Tokyo Manji wins.

Smileys also appear in several important arcs in this series such as the Moebius Arc, Valhalla Arc, Black Dragons Arc, and Tenjiku Arc. He also participates in most of the fight scenes especially if it is a battle between Tokyo Manji against other gangs.

Nahoya Kawata is not very influential in the development of the plot and the series as a whole, but that doesn't mean Smiley is just an extra. He is a character who brings a unique flavor to Tokyo Revengers as one of the characters who strengthens the Tokyo Manji Gang.
