Through the first trailer of Black Widow shared by Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), we can see some of the new characters are shown, one of them is Red Guardian. This character makes fans curious because he has a similar costume as Captain America. Well, before we see his action in Black Widow film, let’s find out some facts about him here.

7. Appeared in Marvel Comics

Actually, Red Guardian is played by some characters in Marvel COmics. Red Guardian associated with Black Widow is Alexei Shostakov. He was first introduced in Avengers #43 comic book in August 1967 and still alive in the comic to this date.

6. Lived in The World War II Era

As a child, Alexei Shostakov lived as an orphan during the World War II. He was rescued and raised by Vasily Karpov, a Soviet soldier, who eventually led the WInter Soldier program. Alexei was raised by Karpov and treated like his own son. 

5. Former Soviet Pilot

When Alexei old enough, he became a pilot for the Soviet Union. His career speed up and became one of the best pilots owned by the Soviet Union. His ability to fly a plane is excellent and sometimes he would be involved in some of secret missions.

4. Extraordinary Physical Strength

In the comic, Red Guardian’s strength is often compared to Captain America, he is in fact stronger than him. Unlike Steve Rogers who gained his power by getting injected by Super Soldier Serum, Alexei was instead gained his power from the physical strength that he has. He never get a serum or any kind of power to get stronger. During his time as the Soviet Union soldier, Alexei trained many kinds of martial arts and learned how to use various kinds of weapons, one of which is a shield similar to that owned by Captain America.

3. Have Fought Against Captain America

In one of the comics published by Marvel, Alexei's Red Guardian was said to fight against Captain America. The second battle took place when Captain America had a mission to stop the psychotron machine, a mass hallucinatory effect device in China. When he wanted to stop the machine, Captain America had to deal with the Red Guardian and both proved who was the best.

2. Used to be in a relationship with Natasha Romanoff

During his time as the Soviet Union pilot, Alexei was married to a ballerina named Natalia Alianovna Romanova, or known as Black Widow. However, their relationship didn’t work well, both separated when Alexei was appointed by KGB to carry out a secret mission that made them separated forever.

1. Red Guardian Is Played by David Harbour

Alexei character in Black Widow film (2020) later will be portrayed by the actor, David Harbour, the actor who also appeared in Hellboy film and Stranger Things series. Unfortunately, David Harbour’s appearance is very brief that the fans have not been able to see much of what kind of Red Guardian that he will play. But it looks like David Harbor will have the charm as a superhero who rose from retirement to help Natasha Romanoff or Black Widow.
