Horror games only work when it boasts the perfect atmosphere to support the tense scenes. The feeling of floating around aimlessly on a ship may be disturbing for most people. Even without terrifying creatures, some games that are set on a ship usually manage to scare some players — especially for those with Thalassophobia.
On this occasion, Dunia Games would like to give you a list of the best horror games set on a ship. Without further ado, let's get into it.
1. The Dark Pictures: Man Of Medan
Dark Pictures: Man Of Medan is a cinematic adventure game inspired by the true story of the Ourang Medan, a ship that was found floating with all of its crew missing.
In this game, players control a group who would like to go for a dive in the ocean, and escape from some local pirates and end up stumbling upon a mysterious ship. Aboard the ship, they are attacked by ghosts and players must make choices to keep as many crew as possible alive. However, you can also let most of them perish.
2. Layers Of Fear 2
Luxury cruises are supposed to be a place where people have fun without thinking of anything bad happening. At the beginning of Layers Of Fear 2, you find yourself on one of these luxury cruises, although the corridors are closed and some notes have been left.
You'll play as an actor whom the director gives you directions to go around. As you do so, you'll learn a lot about the actor and their history on a very similar ship. When the strangeness hits the reality, you'll realize that it's not just seasickness.
3. Lazaret
Humanoid objects that move are usually one of the staples of the horror genre. These include mannequins, dolls, and in Lazaret's case, strange figurines that emerge from the sea.
As part of the rescue crew on board the lost ship, players are confronted with a dead crew and dozens of human-shaped statues.
Then things get worse after the player discovers that many statues have the intention to kill you, while some others are not threatening at all. How do the players know which statue to kill?
4. Sunless Sea
In Sunless Sea, you will play the role of a captain of a steamship, sailing into a vast underground ocean called The Unterzee. Apart from being terrorized by the eldritch horrors that lurk in the darkness, there are more otherworldly powers.
Do you have enough fuel? Is the food enough? Will customs officials find illegal honey stored in the cargo hold? Between all of those concerns and the comrade who could be turned into a monster would certainly give a very terrible terror.

She receives a letter from Ada, asking for help, yet it doesn't give more details. Once there, you immediately realize everything has turned to hell, and some kind of experimentation has messed up the place.

Could the situation get any worse? Well, strange creatures are also after you. Something seems to be trapped in the room, and you get an evil invitation to hell, and your experiences during World War I come back to haunt you.
