What are those crazy theories about Gol D. Roger that circulated among One Piece fans?
Anime & Manga | 04 January
Gol D. Roger was the figure who started the Pirate Era in One Piece. He was the Pirate King who discovered One Piece. There are still many mysteries about him that we do not know to this day. Due to him shrouded in mystery, many fans have provided various theories about him, and some even said that he is still alive. Want to know about other theories regarding Roger? Find out here!
1. Had a Connection With Dragon
Similar to Roger, Dragon is also one of the most mysterious characters in One Piece. There is a theory that says that Dragon and Roger had a relationship because of their devil fruit, meaning that Roger had the same devil fruit as Dragon.
Dragon's first appearance began with sudden weather changes. In the past, when Roger fought against Shiki, Roger was able to create a sudden change in the weather, allowing him to escape from the Shiki’s fleet.
2. Didn’t Have Devil Fruits
Another theory about Roger says that he was not a devil fruit eater, and it's shown during his execution. Devil fruit eaters would be handcuffed or tied with tools made of sea stones.
But the Marines only used handcuffs made of wood with normal chains on Roger. If Roger was a devil fruit eater, of course, he could easily break the handcuffs that bonded him. This might be true if Roger didn't have devil fruit power.
3. Teach is His Son
During the Marineford arc, it was explained that Ace was the biological child of Gol D. Roger and Port D. Rouge. There is also a crazy theory that Teach is also Roger's biological son.
This was shown when Whitebeard told Teach that "Roger is waiting for a different person". Just because of that sentence, this crazy fan theory emerged. It seems impossible if Teach is Roger's biological son, but it could be possible that he's Rocks D. Xebec's son.
4. Jewelry Bonney is Roger’s Daughter
The death of Ace made the Pirate King's bloodline gone, but this is denied by a fan theory stating that Roger also had a daughter, Jewelry Bonney.
While still pregnant, Rouge intended to name Ace if the baby was a boy, meanwhile, if the baby was a girl, she would name her Ann. For your information, Jewelry Bonney is based on a real female pirate in the real world, Ann Bonney. So is there any chance that this theory is correct?
5. Roger Didn’t Have Gomu Gomu no Mi
Many fans believe that Roger has devil fruit abilities. Some of them believe that the fruit is the Gomu Gomu no Mi, the same fruit Luffy also ate. But this theory might be wrong.
If people who have seen Roger's ability also saw Luffy's fighting technique, surely they will be surprised and immediately state that it was Roger's ability or such. Luffy met many legendary pirates such as Whitebeard, Rayleigh, Kaido, Big Mom, and others, and none of them were surprised upon seeing Luffy's rubber ability.
6. Roger Is Still Alive
This theory might be the craziest theory about Gol D. Roger on this list. After surrendering to the Marines, Roger was executed in Loguetown. Many eyes witnessed Roger's death on that historic day. Then how can anyone say that Roger is still alive?
According to this theory, Roger is still alive and waiting for his successor at Raftel. Before turning himself into the Marines, Roger told Rayleigh that he would not die. Even though what Roger meant here was his "spirit" that would not die.
7. The Owner of Kobu Kobu no Mi
This interesting theory explains that Roger was the owner of the Kobu Kobu no Mi ability which can raise one's fighting spirit. This makes sense since he announced the beginning of the Pirate Age. Currently, the Kobu Kobu no Mi ability is owned by one of the Revolutionary Army commanders, Belo Betty.
8. His Fighting Prowess was Not too Different With His Men
Many people say that Roger had the strongest crew in One Piece history. That made them so strong, to the point they’re able to cross the seas and reached Raftel and eventually found One Piece. One theory is that Roger's crew strength was not too different from their captain. This probably makes sense. The difference in Roger and Rayleigh's strength may be the same as Luffy and Zoro’s.
