The Garudaku Esports Academy, which is an esports academy that’s officially initiated by the Indonesian Executive Board of Esports (PBESI), was introduced today to the entire Indonesian esports ecosystem, including the educational institutions, which is also the main target of the academy.

Endorsing the development, learning, and training aspects that include technical and non-technical (soft skills) skills, Garudaku Esports Academy involves academics and esports practitioners, psychology, public speaking, personal branding, health and nutrition, physical fitness, and law to the teachers and syllabus drafters, as well as the learning and training materials.

Garudaku Esports Academy is designed to be an extracurricular activity that doesn’t only involve learning and training materials for high school and university students but also serves as a platform for students to make achievements and pave their way for a career in the future. At Garudaku Esports Academy, they can develop their potential as athletes, casters, or match analysts.

In addition to being a medium for students in developing their talents and potentials, Garudaku Esports Academy also provides a certification program for those who wish to obtain a license as an extracurricular coach of the Garudaku Esports Academy.

Andrew Tobias, PBESI Deputy Head of Public Relations, said that Garudaku Esports Academy is a strategic program that serves as the answer to various challenges related to the development of an esports ecosystem that is not only successful but also has character and integrity.

He also mentioned that to consistently excel at the international level, aside from the high-skilled talents, Indonesia will also need talents who are intelligent, have leadership qualities, are analytically adept, have excellent physical abilities, ready to work in a team, mentally tough, and have integrity.

“Garudaku Esports Academy will be one of the important contributors for PBESI, especially regarding the mission of developing young talents as stated in the grand design of the organization. For this reason, we need programs like Garudaku Esports Academy and the full involvement and support from the educational world,” said Andrew.

In line with PBESI’s goals, Robertus Aditya Pratomo Putro, S.Sos, M.H., M.Ikom., C.Ht, Head of the Garudaku Esports Academy Program, revealed that aside from supporting the regeneration of the Indonesian esports talents from the education system, the academy also aims to introduce educational institutions with the potentials of the digital industry, connecting education with esports, as well as build insight into esports in the world of education as a potential career path.

Students will regularly attend a 90-minute class once a week. The materials consist of 20% Soft Skills, 30% esports theory, and 50% esports practice. To inform schools about the students’ progress, report cards will be issued monthly, containing an evaluation of the student's development. Learning materials are available at www.garudaku.com.

“The Garudaku Esports Academy participants have the opportunity to be eyed by PBESI to become national athletes. Because, they will regularly play in matches, class meetings, and given the chance to take part in the Piala Pelajar (Students Cup),” said Robertus.

Positive Responses from the Education System and Esports Ecosystem in the Country

The arrival of Garudaku Esports Academy received a positive response from the psychology expert, Ajeng Raviando. According to her, those involved in the esports industry, such as athletes, casters, analysts, are role models for their peers in this digital era.

“It is certain that two of the challenges that deserve attention are the character and behavior. The collaboration between Garudaku Esports Academy and the education system builds optimism for the development of talented and capable players with strong characters in the esports ecosystem who can be role models and source of inspiration for their peers,” said Ajeng Raviando.

He saw that Garudaku Esports Academy could play a positive role in helping to develop leadership, spurring the competitive spirit and sportsmanship, honing strategic and analytic skills, teamwork, talent development, and actualizing students, as well as creating a career path. For the education system, the Garudaku Esports Academy will play its role in line with the concept and policy of the Merdeka Belajar program.
