Wednesday is the latest series from Netflix that has recently become the talking point among viewers. This series quickly stole the limelight since its first release on 23 November 2022. Wednesday is a spin-off of "The Addams Family" in 1991, which tells the story of a character named Wednesday Addams. Behind its massive success, there are several fascinating facts about this series. So, here are some facts that you should know about the Netflix series starring Jenna Ortega, Wednesday.

1. Directed by 3 Different Directors

Most films or series are directed by one director, but that's not the case for Wednesday. Despite the series only having 8 episodes, the production is led by three directors. They are Tim Burton, Gandja Monteiro, and James Marshall, who had significant roles for the success of Wednesday on Netflix. The early episodes (1-4) were directed by Tim Burton, episodes 5-6 were directed by Gandja Monteiro, and the last two episodes were directed by James Marshall.

2. Christina Ricci's Role as a Teacher

Christina Ricci played Wednesday Addams in "The Addams Family" (1991), so, understandably, her role in Netflix's Wednesday has certainly been one of the highlights of this series. However, instead of playing a role of a main character, in Wednesday, Christina Ricci plays a a botany teacher at Nevermore Academy named Marilyn Thornhill, who's also the head of the dorm where Wednesday lives. She seems to be the only teacher who doesn't have magical powers in the school. Yet she actually keeps a dark secret that will certainly surprise you.

3. Thing is Made Without CGI

Thing is one of the more popular characters in Wednesday. He is a severed hand, assigned to oversee Wednesday while at Nevermore Academy by Gomez and Morticia, Wednesday's father and mother. You might assume that Thing is generated by CGI, yet in fact, Thing is played by a Romania illusionist named Victor Dorobantu. Victor revealed how the hand was edited by the special effects team to appear as Thing.

4. Jenna Ortega, the Perfect Actress for the Role

Jenna Ortega auditioned for the role of Wednesday while she was on the set of X. During the audition, Jenna didn't have enough time to remove her horror make-up from the shoot due to her busy schedule. Jenna had to appear in the audition wearing her horror make-up, which caused Wednesday creator, Miles Millar, to say that Jenna Ortega reminded him of a silent film actress because she was able to convey something without words in their Zoom meeting. As a matter of fact, in order to explore her role, Jenna Ortega showed some dedication in her preparation for this role. Jenna learned how to play the cello, archery, fencing, and even learn German.

5. Jenna Ortega Choreographed Her Own Dance Move

One of the most iconic scenes in Wednesday is the Goo Goo Muck dance that Wednesday performs at the ball at Nevermore Academy. The dance immediately went viral on social media, and as it turns out, it was Jenna Ortega herself who came up with the choreography for this scene. "I actually felt really insecure about this. I choreographed that myself and I think it’s very obvious that I’m not a dancer or choreographer," Jenna said in an interview.

6. Wednesday Never Blinks

Jenna Ortega's dedication in playing Wednesday certainly deserves a thumbs up. Apart from learning to play the cello, fencing, and learning German, Jenna did all of her scenes without blinking. She did this in order to implement the perfect "kubrick stare" for Wednesday. Jenna's dedication certainly helped make Wednesday look more mysterious and intimidating.

7. The Series Managed to Topple Stranger Things

Due to its massive success on Netflix, Wednesday managed to garner 341.23 million hours viewed in its first week, which means this is a new record for an English-speaking Netflix series. Wednesday managed to beat the previous record held by the fourth season of Stranger Things with its 335 million hours viewed, and is just behind the widely popular Korean series, Squid Game, with its 571.8 million hours viewed in one week.
