One Piece Chapter 980 opens with the Beast Pirates throwing out food. This triggers Luffy as he starts to make a commotion right then and there. Zoro who sees it also got infuriated and split the building into two. Meanwhile, Kid is using the situation to escape.

Apoo recognizes right away that the two people who’re making such chaos are Luffy and Zoro of the Straw Hats, who were supposed to be in Udon. He then asks Queen what action should they take since if people realized that there are prisoners who managed to escape, Queen would be the one to take the blame. On the other hand, Queen is planning to eliminate one of the Flying Six.

Chances are, that person is gonna be X-Drake, considering he’s a Marine in disguise. But that doesn’t necessarily rule out the possibility that Queen could eliminate someone else instead, just due to some disagreements. Page One could also be one of them considering he once failed when tasked in killing Sanji.

Now, let’s move on to Apoo-Luffy’s scuffle. As Luffy and Zoro are making an uproar, Apoo plays music and cast his skill. Unfortunately, Luffy and Zoro are not yet aware of Apoo’s presence at that time. 

After finishing his casting, Apoo casts an invisible attack with incredible frequency, leading to Luffy being hit by a great explosion, resulting in him losing his bearings for a moment. Whereas Zoro is being hit by an invisible slash. That was all due to the power of Apoo’s Devil Fruit.

Apoo is able to perform many types of attacks, such as explosions, punches, slashes, and probably pierces. And of course, all of them are carried out by using the sound waves from the music he plays. A truly unique ability as he can do all that just by using sound waves.

This was demonstrated by Apoo before when he fought Kizaru in Sabaody. Perhaps due to the speed of the attack, Kizaru wasn’t able to avoid it and his body was split into two. Luckily, Kizaru is a user of a Logia, thus he wasn’t killed by the attack. It would be a completely different story if Apoo was able to use Haki.

Theoretically, if Apoo does use sound as his main outlet to attack, then Apoo’s attack speed would be the same as the speed of sound. The speed of sound is 1,234 km/hour, so, it’s understandable that Luffy couldn’t avoid it even that he uses Advanced Haki. 

When he sees Luffy and Zoro run away, Kid is still able to think clearly and sees it as a distraction for him to make an escape. Yet, upon seeing Apoo, he gets enraged quickly and goes after him. 

It’s probably because Apoo refused to cooperate with him against Kaido when they’re still allied. To be frank, they could make it and escaped from Kaido if they had joined forces. So, it’s reasonable that Kid got furious with him.
