Good news for weebs and everyone who loves sports manga/anime. This time, a football-themed manga titled 'Blue Lock' will soon be getting an anime version this year. The popularity of manga is undoubted as 'Blue Lock' won the Kodansha Manga Award 2021 for the Shonen category.

Blue Lock is directed by Tesuaki Watanabe and Shunsuke Ishikawa and produced by Eight Bit Studio. Before we show you the reasons why you need to watch this anime, you can watch the trailer here:

Looks exciting, doesn’t it? Aside from the stunning animations, here are some reasons why you need to watch this anime.

1. A Mix of Sports and Action

Action anime series tend to gain more popularity as they offer exciting scenes that involve the characters. Granted, Blue Lock isn’t an action anime per se, yet you’ll get a similar vibe whenever the players get in fights. Each play and movement that the characters make on the field are done with flair and well thought out, and they always fight as if their lives were on the line.

2. A 'Selfish' Tale

Unlike most sports anime, Blue Lock is a series that has a very individualistic approach to its story. While in Haikyuu the story focuses on teamwork and friendship, in contrast, Blue Lock forces its characters into the "everyone for himself" mindset. The teenagers who get involved in the Blue Lock program have to retain their spots and not get relegated. This kind of situation creates intense moments where the players will immediately go against each other in unexpected situations.

3. Realistic

There tend to be some implausible and exaggerated things in anime. Despite the exaggeration, all of the movements in Blue Lock are technically possible in real life. As a matter of fact, lots of the stunning goals in Blue Lock are inspired by iconic goals from real life. Some of the techniques shown by the characters are based on real ones.

4. No Place for 'Slice of Life'

Unlike most sports anime, Blue Lock leans into a more aggressive style in emphasizing its action-sports segment and character developments through the challenges the characters have to go through. This also makes every match feels more intense. With each mission, every shot, every challenge, and every goal, the characters also grow.

5. Each Character Has Their Uniqueness

Aside from the main character, the supporting characters deserve a mention in this article. In Muneyuki Kaneshiro’s manga, each of the supporting characters is made in detail, not to mention that each of them come with their own ego. So, these characters clearly deserve more attention from the viewers.

So, those were the reasons why Blue Lock should be one of the most anticipated anime series this year. Stick around for more anime and gaming info, and make sure to follow Dunia Games on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates.
