The most popular anime series Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is finally back with Part 6: Stone Ocean. Unlike in previous seasons, Jojo Part 6 is an anime licensed by Netflix. That's why the first twelve episodes of the series premiered on Netflix in early December 2021 before being broadcast on Japanese state TV stations in January 2022.

For the first time in the Jojo series, the protagonist Jojo is a woman. Her name is Jolyne Kujo, the daughter of the protagonist of Part 3 Jotaro Kujo. Do you want to know more about Jolyne's story in prison? Find out more about Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 6: Stone Ocean in Dunia Games' Anime of The Week!

Jolyne’s Struggle in Green Dolphin Prison

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 6: Stone Ocean tells the story of Jolyne Kujo who has been sentenced to 15 years in jail at the Green Dolphin Prison. She received the sentence for a hit-and-run crime committed by her girlfriend but the blame was put on Jolyne. The poor girl finds herself caught up in a more devious plot because her father's memory and stand are stolen by a new villain named White Snake. Jolyne and her friends must help recover Jotaro's memories while defeating various stand users who inhabit the prison. The protagonist also has to escape from Stone Ocean.

Jolyne's character makes this story fun to watch. She has various scenes that display emotions and reactions that are enjoyable to watch. Jolyne appears to be hot-tempered and brash, but she can also be very good-natured, thoughtful, and a bit tacky at times. Viewers believe that Jolyne is a teenage girl trying to cope with her chaotic life.

There’s a supporting character named Ermes Costello who became a sister-like figure for Jolyne. Ermes with her very attractive stand, Kiss (Smack) makes this story even more exciting. Like the other cast of the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure series, Jolyne and her friends work closely together.

Jotaro Kujo also returns in Stone Ocean and he's in good shape. Although Jotaro is often criticized for not having much of a personality, in Stone Ocean we can see Jotaro's resolution as a father who has difficulty in establishing a father-daughter relationship with Jolyne. Their interactions are both awkward and uncomfortable, but behind the odd relationship, it's easy to see that Jotaro and Jolyne really care about each other even though they're not good at expressing it.

It’s Not a Flat Series Despite the Majority of the Story is Set in Jail

The opening song of Stone Ocean sung by Ichigo is very cool with a CGI impression like the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 1 to 3 series. The punk girl band feel of the song fits Jolyne's character very well.

In general, the quality of animation in this anime is very interesting because of the vibrant colors. The facial expressions of the characters are more detailed and the battle scenes are peppered with more color and dynamic camera angles. It's amazing how the creators of this anime were able to make a place as gloomy as a prison look stylish.

Speaking of prisons, Stone Ocean is often criticized for being trapped in only one location, the Green Dolphin prison. Even so, this series does not feel boring with the various conflicts that are presented. The things that make Stone Ocean interesting are the strange characters and enemies that are presented in this prison. There is no way out of the prison full of strange people. The claustrophobic feel of a prison where enemies are lurking at every corner makes this story more thrilling with every episode.
