The Detective is Already Dead, a Title that Spoils the Character’s Fate

Usually, anime will get boring fast if you get a spoiler on the story, but in this anime, the title which spoils the character’s fate actually makes the story more enjoyable. Looking at the fairly long title, The Detective is Already Dead, you can definitely guess the theme of the story and the fate of the character.

As the title implies, The Detective is Already Dead tells the story of a young detective named Kimihiko Kimizuka who gets a mission to deliver a package on a flight on a commercial plane. The flight attendant's notification over the speaker that needed the detective’s assistance while the plane was in mid-flight took Kimihiko by surprise.

The beautiful white-haired girl sitting beside Kimihiko turned out to be a young detective, after getting acquainted with her unfamiliar name, Siesta, they headed for the source located in the pilot's cockpit. Suddenly Kimihiko became an assistant to Siesta, they also faced a fairly serious case of airplane hijacking.

The hijacker challenges Siesta and Kimihiko in a guessing game that risks the lives of all the passengers. That was the first case that Kimihiko had with Siesta, which was then told in the first episode that Siesta died several years later.

Even so, Siesta is still alive in a different body and the series of flashbacks reveals the truth. The back-and-forth flow presented in The Detective is Already Dead in uncovering each plot that further reveals the truth about the deceased Siesta is very entertaining to follow.

A Combination of Angel Beats and Detective Conan

If you like detective romance-themed anime like Detective Conan, The Detective is Already Dead, is a recommended anime with the thrill of solving various cases that require analysis and guessing who the real culprits are and their motives. The characterization of Kimihiko Kimizuka as a young detective who brings misfortune because cases follow him wherever he goes reminds us of Conan Edogawa.

Kimihiko’s first case with Siesta that occurred on a commercial flight also reminds us of Shinichi Kudo’s first case, Detective Conan's alter ego who investigates the murder in the "iron bird" that took him on a Japan-United States flight.

The touching nuance of Angel Beats is also felt in The Detective is Already Dead, with the similarities between Siesta and Kanade Tachibana who both are cute girls with white hair with a calm nature but also a tough fighter. Siesta's heart which was transplanted into Nagisa so that it remains alive in it is similar to the incident of Kanade's heart which turned out to be Otonashi's previously donated heart. The cute, lively idol character who is both named Yui-nyan is also present in both anime, with the same stature and character.

A Cameo from Hololive VTubers in One of the Episodes 

As discussed in the opening section of this article, those who like VTubers will definitely enjoy The Detective is Already Dead because Hololive Production members appear as cameo. Yes, Shirakami Fubuki and Matsuri Natsuiro appeared with their respective characters who discussed Yui who worked as an idol in this anime.

The cameo of Shirakami Fubuki and Matsuri Natsuiro makes this anime attract more people to watch it, especially because it mentions the VTuber phenomenon and also Idol concerts. Kimihiko, who later becomes Nagisa’s assistant who lives with Siesta’ heart, attempts to uncover cases related to the famous idol Yui.
