There are lots of great anime for fans of rock music that may inspire fans of the genre to keep playing music. As a matter of fact, music and anime actually go hand in hand. Some of the best songs are even songs from anime series. And there are some anime series that revolve around certain genres of music.

1. Detroit Metal City

Detroit Metal City is a music anime that tells about Soichi Negishi, the vocalist of the band Detroit Metal City. The band plays heavy metal songs with violence and hateful lyrics. There is one problem, though: Soichi hates his personality on stage as he is actually just an ordinary, loving college student who wants to enjoy pop music.

While his fans admire his demonic personality, Soichi is tired of pretending to be someone he's not. The conflict between himself and his persona makes Detroit Metal City's story so interesting to watch.

2. Doukyuusei

Doukyuusei is a rock music-themed anime film. This anime focuses on drama and light romance about high school students who are preparing for the school choir festival.

Hikaru Kusakabe is a cheerful member of a rock band who meets his classmate Rihito Sajou, who has difficulty singing. Fascinated by his classmate, Hikaru offers to coach him and the two opposite personalities end up spending a lot of time together.

3. K-On!

K-On! is a classic anime about music. Even though the genre is somewhere between pop-punk and J-pop, fans of rock music will certainly enjoy the songs in this series.

This anime tells about the Light Music Club at Sakuragaoka High School, a club on the verge of disbanding. The protagonist, Yui, learns how to play the guitar in order to bring the club back to life.

4. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

Most anime fans must be familiar with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure as it is easily one of the most famous shonen anime of all time. The series has been around since 1987 with no signs of stopping.

Nana is a classic anime about an unexpected encounter between two women, both named Nana, who have great musical chemistry. Nana Osaki has moved to Tokyo to follow her dream of becoming a rock/pop-punk star, while Nana Komatsu naively followed her boyfriend into studying in an art school.

As roommates, they both pursue dreams of becoming music stars separately, but alongside each other. The series has an excellent opening theme that sets the tone for the episodes that follow, full of catchy songs and engaging narrative developments.

6. Bocchi the Rock

Bocchi the Rock is the newest anime on this list, and one of the best Fall 2022 anime. Don't be fooled by their adorable looks, these girls write some pure heavy rock music! The series focuses on Bocchi, a high school girl and guitar player with severe social anxiety disorder.

After failing to achieve her goal of starting a band in high school, Bocchi is recruited into the rock band "Kessoku" due to his inability to say no. The series is primarily a comedy, but has some truly heartfelt moments, with the band members helping Bocchi deal with her mental health issues everyday.

7. Zombieland Saga

This anime takes an unusual theme. Resurrected by their insane manager, the members of Franchouchou are tasked with saving the Saga Prefecture through music. The band is made up of amazing members from different eras. Starting from Yugiri, a legendary courtesan from the Meiji era, to Sakura, the protagonist who's the last one revived by the manager.

Each of the seven members of the band contributes their unique voices to an extraordinary piece of music.

8. Bakumatsu Rock

Bakumatsu Rock tells the story of the mysterious Ryouma Sakamoto, who wants everyone to know about his love for rock n roll music. As he roams the streets with his electric guitar, he demonstrates to anyone who would listen that he is just as skilled as the musicians the society accepts.

9. Bubblegum Crisis

Bubblegum Crisis is a short but sweet Sci-Fi/Mecha series with a catchy soundtrack. One of the trailblazers of the "Girls With Guns" genre, this series only aired for eight episodes from 1987-1991, although it has spawned several spin-off series.

When protagonist Priscilla Asagiri isn't protecting the city of MegaTokyo from the evil Genome Corporation and its biomechanical creatures called the Boomers, she lets loose as the lead singer of Priss and the Replicants. The band plays smooth pop-rock on synths, which goes perfectly with the spirit of the 80s when the series debuted.

10. FLCL

FLCL (sometimes referred to as Fooly Cooly) is a retro anime franchise to be rebooted in 2023. The first series, released in 2000 in six short-but-memorable episodes about the 12-year-old Naota Nandaba, and the portal in his brain that spawns a giant robot.
