A special program to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Sailor Moon anime revealed on Thursday, April 28, 2022 that the "Shadow Galactica" arc, the final arc of Naoko Takeuchi's manga, will receive a two-part anime film project titled Gekijoban Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Cosmos (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos the Movie) which will be released in Japan in early summer 2023.

The official website for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos the Movie recently opened and revealed the trailer video and visuals. Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos the Movie will feature cast from the previous Sailor Moon anime returning in this latest project.

Tomoya Takahashi (Den-noh Coil, Gatchaman Crowds) is directing both films at Toei Animation. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Land of the Lustrous, PriPara) is writing the script.

Kazuko Tadano, the character designer for the original Sailor Moon anime, co-designed the characters for this film project. Yasuharu Takanashi (Naruto Shippuden) is composing the music. Yumiko Soraga is the art director.

Netflix began streaming a two-part anime film project under the title Pretty Guardians Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie (Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal) worldwide on June 3, 2022. This two-part film project replaces the fourth season for the Sailor Moon Crystal anime series. The films include the "Dead Moon" arc of Naoko Takeuchi's manga.
