His friends believe that there are still other peaceful ways to achieve freedom for Eldia – yet Eren insists on flattening the world.

2. Knowing About the Future

Eren got his biggest epiphany when he touched Historia’s hand – activating Eren’s power of the Founding Titan when he came into contact with the royal blood.

Eren saw his future self doing the Rumbling. Although he hated the plan and tried to look for another solution, Eren knows that peace can only be attained if Eren becomes humanity’s biggest enemy – that’s why he needed to choose genocide.

3. His Thirst for Freedom

Since he was little, Eren had been living in a “cage”. He always felt that his freedom had always been taken away by the Titans. For Eren, the Titans have snatched his childhood and family. As he grew up, fighting for freedom became Eren’s motivation to fight his enemies.

4. Becoming the Public Enemy is the Only Way for Eren to Save His Friends

As mentioned above, Rumbling is the only way for Eren to attain peace for the Eldians on Paradis Island. He opts for the Rumbling to divert the hatred towards the people on Paradis, as the world will start again from scratch.

If Eren decided to go for negotiation to achieve peace, the hatred towards the people on Paradis Island would never be erased. That’s why Eren decided to scorch the earth with thousands of Wall Titans.

By removing the hatred towards the people on Paradis, Eren and his friends would be able to live in peace, safe and sound without being disturbed by the people outside the island.
