The arrival of the Mega Evolution in Pokemon GO back in 2020 was expected to become a fun feature. Yet, as a matter of fact, it’s been a disappointment as it felt underwhelming for most Trainers. The Mega Evolution was deemed too costly as it required Trainers to spend Mega Energy.

Mega Energy is basically not free as Trainers need to do a Raid first, meaning that they also need a Raid Pass. The biggest inconvenience was that Mega Evolution would only last for 8 hours before Trainers had to spend another Mega Energy.

The Mega Evolution in Pokemon GO was considered as a rent-a-Pokemon, which would cost Mega Energy per usage.

After a while, the Mega Evolution became less desirable for players due to the cost of Mega Energy. Niantic tried to push the feature to players by giving out free Mega Energy rewards for completing quests from the Pokestop. Yet it didn’t manage to attract Trainers to use Mega Evolutions.

Recently, Niantic finally released a new way for Mega Evolution: free (without Mega Energy) after the first use. For example, if you evolve Venusaur into Mega Venusaur with Mega Energy after it changes back to Venusaur, you’ll have a 7-day cooldown for a free Mega Evolution, which will cost you 0 Mega Energy. Now, if you want to speed up the cooldown, you will have to spend another Mega Energy.

In the end, at least there’s a way for Trainers to use the Mega Evolution feature for free. Mega Evolution Pokemon also have levels, the higher the level (based on how many times the Pokemon has performed a Mega Evolution), the shorter the cooldown, and the more bonus effects they will have. These bonuses include an increased chance of getting Candy and Candy XL when you catch the same Pokemon as your current Mega.

With this cost-free method, it will certainly be easier for Trainers to get the Mega Evolution Badge in their profiles. Another update for Mega Evolution is that you can perform Mega Evolutions in the lobby while waiting for a Raid to begin. It’s a newly-added feature given that some Trainers tend to forget to use their Mega Evolutions for Raids.

Mega Raids will also be easier to complete than before. Pokemon that you have performed Mega Evolutions on will have silhouettes of their respective Mega Evolution in the background. So, with these major updates, will you be interested in using Mega Evolution?
