Giovanni, the head of the Team Rocket will challenge you again for a battle. This month, Giovanni will bring the Legendary Pokemon, Shadow Zapdos. To encounter and fight Giovanni, you need black Super Rocket Radars. You can get these Super Rocket Radars from Special Research Tasks or Timed Research Tasks.

Once you have the Super Rocket Radar, you can encounter Giovanni with his Team Rocket balloon, which spawns at 0:00-06:00, 06:00-12:00, 12:00-18:00, or 18:00-24:00.

Aside from that, you can also encounter Giovanni at certain Pokestops. Giovanni brings Persian as his main Pokemon, Kangaskhan/Garchomp/Nidoking, and Shadow Zapdos.

To counter Persian and Kangaskhan (Normal-type), you can use Fighting-types, such as Lucario (Counter, Power-Up Punch), Machamp (Counter, Cross Chop), among others.

Take advantage of the speed of Power-Up Punch or Cross Chop to lower Giovanni’s shield. If you’re fighting Garchomp, use Ice-types, such as Mamoswine (Powder Snow, Avalanche), Weavile (Ice Shard, Avalanche), or other Ice-types. For Nidoking, you can counter it by using Water-types like Swampert (Mud Shot, Hydro Cannon), or Psychic-types like Mewtwo (Psycho Cut, Psystrike), etc.

Last but not least, to counter Shadow Zapdos, use Rock-types like Rhyperior (SmackDown, Rock Wrecker), or Ice-types like Mamoswine. You can also use your Rock & Ice-type Pokemon to go up against it.

Use fast Charge Moves. And take advantage of the freeze after every Charge Move or when switching Pokemon. Good luck on defeating Giovanni and getting Shadow Zapdos, Trainers!

It’d be smart to keep your Shadow Zapdos, as its Shadow forme is really rare and has a 20% higher Attack stats. If you want common Zapdos, you can try to get it from Raid Battles.
