Since December 1, Red Dead Online has been sold as a standalone and has been on a discount by Rockstar until February 15, 2021, so, more and more players start to play Red Dead Online.

While Rockstar has already provided the players with good tutorials at the beginning of the game, most players still don’t know how to make money and get more gold. Therefore, on this occasion, we would like to give you some tips and tricks for beginners to get more familiar with the gameplay and get rich fast in Red Dead Online.

1. Complete All Story Missions

When you first start your journey in the Red Dead Online universe, you will encounter Mr. Horley and Mrs. LeClerk, who are the two major characters of the Red Dead Online story missions. It is highly advised to complete all of the story missions, because, at the end of the story, you can end up getting 5 gold bars and several hundred dollars in total.

All of these story missions can be seen on the map as a yellow icon. Some of these icons have initials on them, some others have a gold weight scale on them. If you’re playing alone, you will be teamed up with other random players in matchmaking.

The story missions in Red Dead Online are basically extensions of the tutorials before because in some of these missions you will be introduced to how to use a lasso, the Dead Eye feature, among other things.

2. Stranger Missions

Apart from the story missions, another free roam activity that can reward you with lots of gold is the Stranger Missions, marked with a waving person icon on the map. These missions vary, and after completing each mission, you will be rewarded with gold, money, and XP.

There’s a trick on how to get the maximum rewards from completing these Stranger Missions, which is by taking your time as long as possible to complete them. If you complete one of these missions in less than six minutes, you will be rewarded with 0.08 gold. But if you complete those missions in twenty minutes, you can get 0.4 gold.

So, if you intend to collect some wild plants/herbs, it’d be a good idea to collect them during a Stranger Mission. Because aside from getting bigger rewards from completing these missions, you will also make extra money from collecting those herbs.

3. Get the Arabian Red Chestnut

Early in your career as a cowboy, you will be riding a Scrawny Nag, and this horse is arguably the worst in Red Dead Online. It has poor stamina, sub-par speed, gets tired and hungry easily. Therefore, make sure you get your Scrawny Nag replaced with a better horse as soon as possible, so you can speed up your money-making process in Red Dead Online.

The Arabian Red Chestnut is one of the highly recommended horses for beginners. This horse won’t cost you that much, only $250, and can be purchased right away by any low-rank player.

In terms of its performance, the Arabian Red Chestnut is arguably perfect, especially earlier in the game, where there are other horses that still need to be unlocked.

With a good saddle and stirrup, the Arabian Red Chestnut can still be a good choice until the mid-game, given its performance.

4. Equip Yourself with A Bolt-Action Rifle

Having a good reliable weapon is an absolute must in Red Dead Online, and one of the best weapons for beginners is the Bolt-Action Rifle. Actually, in the rifle category, there are other better weapons, like the Springfield, Carcano, or the Rolling Block Rifle. Yet unfortunately, for lower-rank beginners, the best rifle that they can get is the Bolt-Action.

While it’s more suitable for beginner players, the Bolt-Action Rifle performs really well, especially once you’ve upgraded its barrel and got the iron sights. Aside from being a suitable weapon for various missions, the Bolt-Action Rifle also works great for hunting big games such as bison, deer, etc, as one headshot of the bullet won’t ruin the quality of your pelt.

Nonetheless, since it’s a rifle, the Bolt-Action has a terrible fire rate. On the other hand, its damage and accuracy are excellent in comparison to repeaters, which have a higher fire rate.

5. Treasure Maps & Daily Challenges

Aside from the Story & Stranger Missions, you can also get a lot of money and gold in Red Dead Online from doing the Treasure Maps and Daily Challenges. Every five levels, you will receive a Treasure Map that you can pick up at the post office, each of them contains the location of a treasure chest with various loot. From gold, money, to other valuables.

Each day, you can also do a series of Daily Challenges, where you will be rewarded with gold bars after carrying out each of them. In Daily Challenges, there’s a streak system, which will multiply the number of gold bars you can get if you manage to complete at least one Daily Challenge per day for seven to twenty-eight consecutive days.

6. Fast Travel & Auto Travel

Considering Red Dead Online has a vast map, Rockstar also provided a feature that helps players to explore the map easier.

First, there’s the fast travel feature that allows you to move from one place to another quickly for a price. Secondly, there’s auto travel, where you and your horse will be on an “autopilot” mode until you reach the designated location.

It’s actually easy to activate the auto travel feature. First, you just need to mark down your destination by setting a waypoint on your map. Then, ride the route for a few meters while pressing the cinematic camera button. After that, your character will ride autonomously to the destination.

7. Ability Cards

Red Dead Online has an ability system, based on the cards you place in the Ability Loadout slots. There are several renowned abilities, one of which is the Paint It Black, which will mark certain body parts of your target while aiming using your Dead Eye.

There are lots of Ability Cards available in Red Dead Online. Unfortunately, you can only place four cards in your build. And of course, to unlock and upgrade these cards, you will need to spend some money.
