The Blu-ray Disc Box for the 1996 anime Midori no Makibao will feature a new animated adaptation of Tsunomaru's final manga chapter. The Blu-ray Disc Box version of the Midori no Makibao anime will be released on July 27, 2022. The episode "Owaranai Chosen" (Neverending Challenge) will be five minutes long and will be the first time for the last chapter of the Midori no Makibao manga to be animated.

This episode will feature the returning cast from the Midori no Makibao anime. Yoriyasu Kogawa (Naruto Shippuden the Movie: Bonds) is directing this episode at Studio Pierrot, which also animated the Midori no Makibao series. Character designer Hidekazu Ohara is the illustration designer for the Blu-ray Disc release Midori no Makibao.

The Midori no Makibao anime series aired in Japan for 61 episodes from 1996-1997. Noriyuki Abe (Yu Yu Hakusho, Bleach) is directing the Midori no Makibao series. Tsnumaru debuted the Midori no Makibao manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1994. The manga ended in 1998.

Makibao's story is also popular in Indonesia because the anime series was broadcast on private TV. The story tells about the adventures of a cute white horse with human characters whose facial expressions are more like real horses, rather than Makibao the cute-looking magical horse.
