Alter Ego’s decision to first pick Cici has become a hot topic of discussion. Their recent defeat against Geek Fam has left many fans and analysts with lingering questions.
The draft decisions made by Alter Ego in that match have raised eyebrows. Several choices have strayed from the current META, and many observers have questioned the logic behind them.
Prioritizing Hayabusa has sparked the first round of debate. Even though Hayabusa has been one of Rine's signature heroes, there have been many other viable options. Picking him as a first priority has not always been the most strategic choice.
In another moment, they even have prioritized Moskov despite Granger being available. Given the current Gold Lane power ranking, every team has usually gone for Granger when he has been open and Harith has already been picked by the enemy.
But the most confusing decision has involved their insistence on picking Cici in the first phase. Alter Ego has picked Cici twice during second-pick drafts and even has gone for her as the first pick in Game 3 when they had the first draft slot.
Alter Ego’s Cici First Pick Raises Eyebrows
It has seemed as though Alter Ego has been forcing Cici into their drafts repeatedly—almost as if Nino has only been able to perform with Cici, or as if he has struggled to maximize his impact with other heroes.
Even Alter Ego’s CEO, Delwyn Sukamto, has reacted emotionally during a live stream when he has witnessed his team's draft choices firsthand.
Mas Ade also has shared his thoughts about Alter Ego’s insistence on Cici. According to him, the pick has reflected a need to secure Cici for Nino under any circumstances.
“I understand why they’ve first picked Cici. They’ve just wanted to secure her before someone else picks her, because if Cici is gone, Nino might not have any other hero,” Mas Ade has said during a livestream.
“His Hilda is ‘YTTA’, Chou on EXP is ‘YTTA’, and Badang too—‘YTTA’. That’s why they’ve gone for Cici. They're afraid of losing her.”
Alter Ego’s issues have begun to surface. After a promising start, the team has started facing increasing challenges.
As we’ve seen in previous seasons, Alter Ego has typically performed well early on—only to experience a sudden drop in the middle of the season. Whether history will repeat itself once again remains to be seen.
