In November, console and PC gamers will be able to play one of the most anticipated games this year, Yakuza: Like a Dragon. This game is a sequel to the Yakuza franchise, continuing after the ending of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. There are so many interesting things that this game has compared to previous installments, such as a new protagonist, a turn-based combat system, and female playable characters. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the voice cast of Yakuza: Like a Dragon:

1. Ichiban Kasuga - Kazuhiro Nakaya/ Kaiji Tang

Ichiban Kasuga is the main protagonist in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, replacing the longtime protagonist in the series, Kazuma Kiryu. He’s a member of the Arakawa clan, a yakuza family based in Tokyo. One day, Ichiban is called by his boss, Masumi Arakawa, to go to prison as taking the blame for a murder committed by the culprit who is also a member of the clan. After he gets out, he is surprised that nobody came to welcome him. Feeling strange, Ichiban looks for the answer by seeking out Arakawa, but instead of getting a welcome, he gets exiled to Isezaki Ijincho, Yokohama.

Ichiban is voiced by Kazuhiro Nakaya in Japanese. Previously, Nakaya once voiced one of the characters in the franchise, named Akira Nishikiyama. In English, Ichiban is voiced by Kaiji Tang, an American voice actor whose voice can be heard in the Dynasty Warriors series as Sima Zhao.

2. Yu Nanba - Ken Yasuda/ Greg Chun

Yu Nanba is a former doctor who lost his license after being involved in selling drugs to the black market, and now he spends his life as a homeless person in Ijincho. One day, he finds Ichiban exiled by his clan near his shack.

Nanba is played and voiced by a Japanese actor, Ken Yasuda. One of his famous movies is Gintama live-action. For his voice in English, Nanba is voiced by Greg Chun, an American voice actor who previously voiced Takayuki Yagami in Judgment, one of the games made by SEGA which is also set in the same universe as the Yakuza series.

3. Koichi Adachi - Akio Otsuka/ Andrew Morgado

Adachi is an ex-detective who was discharged from the force due to his attempt to reveal the dark side of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Force. After his encounter with Ichiban, he decides to join him to find the connection between the police force and the Arakawa clan.

Adachi is voiced by Akio Otsuka, a veteran Japanese voice actor who also voiced Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid series and Marshall (Blackbeard) D. Teach in One Piece. In English, he is voiced by Andrew Morgado, an American voice actor who also took part in Mortal Kombat 11 as The Kollector and in Marvel VS Capcom Infinite as Venom. 

4. Saeko Mukouda - Sumire Uesaka/ Elizabeth Maxwell

Saeko is one of the female characters who joins Ichiban. She is a hostess at a bar in Ijincho. Her reason for joining Ichiban is she wants to infiltrate the Chinese mafia that operates the city.

Saeko is voiced by Sumire Uesaka in Japanese, a beautiful voice actress who also lends her voice in several anime and video games such as Shalltear Bloodfallen in Overlord and NiCO in Dead or Alive 6. Her voice in English is provided by Elizabeth Maxwell, an American voice actress who also voiced Sae Niijima in Persona 5 and Midnight in My Hero Academia.  

5. Tianyou Zhao - Nobuhiko Okamoto/ Robbie Daymond

Zhao is the leader of a Chinese mafia in Ijincho who takes control of the town along with the other two yakuza/ mafia groups. The reason why Zhao joins Ichiban because he wants to find the reason behind the founding of Bleach Japan, a non-profit organization based in Tokyo that just opened its branch in Yokohama.

Zhao is voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese, where you can hear his voice in My Hero Academia as Bakugo, while in English, Zhao is voiced by Robbie Daymond. You can listen to his voice in Final Fantasy XV as Prompto and in Persona 5 as Goro Akechi.

6. Joon-Gi Han - Yuichi Nakamura/ Keong Sim

Joon-Gi Han is one of the members of a South Korean mafia called Geomijul who takes control in Ijincho along with the Chinese mafia lead by Zhao and a yakuza family. He joins Ichiban to find out about his past that connects to the rival mafia, Jingweon.

Han is voiced by Yuichi Nakamura, a Japanese voice actor who also voiced Gray Fullbuster in Fairy Tail, Mumen Rider in One Punch Man, and Bruno Bucciarati in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. In English, Han is voiced by Keong Sim, a South Korean-American actor who played as Pastor Wayne in the Netflix series called Dead to Me. 

7. Eri Kamataki - Eri Kamataki/ Eden Riegel

Eri Kamataki is the second female character to join Ichiban and the gang. She is obtainable after clearing the side mission Ichiban Confections. Even though Eri is cute and powerful enough, but she doesn’t have any involvement in the main story, just a bonus character.

Eri is voiced and based on her voice actress, Eri Kamataki, a newcomer actress in Japan. She is the winner of a female character audition held by SEGA during the game’s development. In English, Eri is voiced by Eden Riegel, an American voice actor who once voiced Iris Amicitia in Final Fantasy XV and Sherry Birkin in Resident Evil 6.

8. Jo Sawashiro - Shinichi Tsutsumi/ Brian Bloom

Jo Sawashiro is the captain of the Arakawa clan. He is known for his cold, calm, and calculation behavior, and he doesn’t hesitate to punch his underlings whenever they make a mistake. He is also a master of using weapons in combat.

Similar to Yu Nanba, Sawashiro is played by Shinichi Tsutsumi, a Japanese actor whose likeness and voice are used for the character. This actor is also an alumnus of the Gintama live-action movie series as Katakuriko Matsudaira. In English, Sawashiro is voiced by Brian Bloom, an American voice actor, and screenwriter who is often involved in the Call of Duty franchise.

9. Masato Arakawa - Kosuke Toriumi/ Will Yun Lee

Masato Arakawa is the son of Masumi Arakawa. Born crippled on his legs, forcing him to use a wheelchair to move. As the young master, Masato has already respected since he was a child. When Ichiban decided to join the Arakawa family, his first task was to take care of Masato like an older brother.

Masato is voiced by Kosuke Toriumi in Japanese and by Will Yun Lee in English. You can hear Kosuke’s voice in the Naruto series as Kiba Inuzuka, Haikyu!! as Kiyoomi Sakusa, Genshin Impact as Kaeya, and many more. On the other hand, Will Yun Lee is a Hollywood actor who voiced Wei Shen in Sleeping Dogs and played Kenuichio Harada in The Wolverine movie.

10. Goro Majima - Hidenari Ugaki/ Matt Mercer

One of the veteran characters in the Yakuza franchise. Majima is known as the “Mad Dog of Shimano” due to his strength, making him feared by other yakuza. Majima is known for his snake-patterned jacket, his eyepatch, and using a knife in battle. Majima appears in Yakuza: Like a Dragon as an antagonist alongside his brother, Taiga Saejima, who the two know the truth behind the disappearance of Arakawa and Tojo clan from Kamurocho, Tokyo.

Majima is voiced by Hidenari Ugaki, a veteran Japanese voice actor, reprising his role from previous installments. He is one of the few voice actors who is involved in this series since the beginning. Aside from his role as Majima, he also voiced Harumichi Buoya in Crows, Birdie in Street Fighter V, and Ganryu in Tekken 7. In English, Majima is voiced by Matt Mercer, an American voice actor who once voiced Leon Scott Kennedy in Resident Evil 6.

11. Masumi Arakawa - Kiichi Nakai/ George Takei

Masumi Arakawa is the patriarch of the Arakawa clan, a third-tier yakuza clan based in Kamurocho, Tokyo. In the 80s, he formed his own family and consisted of a few members like Jo Sawashiro and Ichiban Kasuga. One day, a tragedy came knocking on his door where one of his subordinates, must be incarcerated due to his involvement in a murder. Arakawa asked Ichiban to take the blame for the killer by going to prison, and Ichiban willingly accepted as gratitude to Arakawa.

Arakawa in Japanese is played by Kiichi Nakai, a senior Japanese actor. For dorama fans, you can watch his acting on the Hero series. In English, Arakawa is voiced by George Takei, a Japanese-American actor who is known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in the Star Trek series.

12. Kazuma Kiryu - Takaya Kuroda/ Darryl Kurylo

And the last one, Kazuma Kiryu is the former protagonist of the Yakuza series who surprisingly makes an appearance in this game. His appearance is still shrouded in mystery, regarding that he’s already “dead” in the previous game, but based on the trailer shown, it looks like Kiryu has to teach a thing or two to Ichiban.

In Japanese, Kiryu is still voiced by Takaya Kuroda, a veteran voice actor who has been voicing Kiryu since his first appearance back in PlayStation 2. Aside from being famous as a voice actor, Takaya Kuroda is also known as the singer of Baka Mitai, or commonly known as Dame Dane on the internet. In English, Kiryu is voiced by Darryl Kurylo, an American voice actor who reprises his role as Kiryu 14 years later after the first Yakuza game released in the States. Aside from his role as Kiryu, Darryl also voiced Alex Mercer in Prototype 2.
